My son's new gixxer 1k spent the day at the race shop and got it's little carcass broken on the dyno. It had only been started and ran for about 30 seconds before it went on the dyno. The results were a little disappointing but never the less impressive.

Horse Power: 154 HP
Torque: 78 foot pounds

I was thinking maybe it would be closer to 160 but that's my story and I'm sticking to it. The shop had one on the dyno earlier after the guy had about 500 miles on it and it only made 151 HP. I gave mine the hard break in on the back roads and am looking forward to a dyno run hopefully by weeks end. I don't have the dyno sheet yet as my son called me with the results on his way home with his scooter. I'll get a copy and post it in a couple of days.

I did get out for another ride this evening on that new gixxer and I enjoyed it more today. Got a little more accustomed to how it handles and got much better on the wheelies. Need to do a little custom tuning to make it wheelie properly though.

I talk to a new Gixxer1K owner (Military) today in the Suzuki Shop. His was the first one to go out the door at the local dealership, Black/Yellow. He told me his will stand up in fifth gear with a twist of the throttle. I didn't want to call "Bull ####" since he was a soldier and I do respect those guys. However, that puppy is not going to come up in fifth unless you use a ramp :-)

Nice to see a beleivable report. All that 170+ bs was getting old. Its still a awesome machine at 155-160.

That is a bit disappointing. All the hype of 165+ hearing from local bike shops and stuff. At least suzuki didn't hype it up any.

Still, a bada$$ bike nonetheless.

How much HP does your 04 have and how does the 05 feel power wise vs the 04?

Don't get caught up in the numbers....they are never goin' to put out the #'s that everybody brags about. Every bike is different and every dyno is different, you could run the same bike on the same dyno on different days and get different #'s. With people claimin' 165 and you getting 154...thats a good # and it should get a little better with more miles on it

154 HP at the wheel is not a bad bargain

So...howz it in comparison to the busa tufbusa? In terms of Accelration and straight line speeds

Nothing to sneeze at. Glad to at least get an actual report and not a bunch of speculation.

Mike Auderer of A.M.I. Racing in Tacoma did the dyno run. He builds lots of race bikes and street bikes as well. I have never had the 04 on the dyno but Mike tells me the 03 & 04's dynoed out between 140 & 144? So it looks as though Suzuki got an additional honest 10 horses. Not a bad increase?

It appears the gixxer is now honestly putting out about the same HP as the busa off the shelf? Twenty pounds less torque of course. For straight line power, I'd still probably put my money on the busa if I had to make a choice? The gixxer is geared really tall in low gear and it's never going to launch like the busa. However, once out of low gear it will be interesting to see just which one pulls harder. The little gixxer feels like a space rocket when you twist the throttle but it could be deceptive just because it's so light? It has the one characteristic of the busa, you don't realize how fast you are going until you look at the speedo.

The new gixxer is not nearly as wheelie prone as the older ones. I shifted to second gear and at 2K RPM I just turned the throttle against the stop and waited to see what would happen. I expected the front to come up at 8K turns or so but it didn't. It just started to bump the pavement ever so lightly with the front tire but never came up. I read in one of the British magizines that Suzuki had really worked on the rear suspension to make it stay on the ground so you could actually use the HP. If I do that with my 04, at 8K turns the front wheel is coming up and if you don't let off the throttle it will soon loop itself. Just a completely different ride.

The best thing I found was it's cornering ability. Geeeez, it corners so much better than the 04. I can see how it will build confidence quickly in an average rider. It comes a little soft in the front but the rear felt quite good.

My son called me last night to say he took his out of the trailer and give it a little test ride up and down the road in front of his house. He said he snapped the clutch in low gear to pull the front wheel up and the tire broke loose and he left about a 30 foot strip right in front of his house. I think he had a cold tire :-)

Hey man if i were bullshidding id want you to call me on it...he may be going by what he had heard from someone else...As long as the 1k is busting the 10s head i dont care if it makes 100 hp, all the matters is suzukis on top in everything.

Well they havent done the drag test yet so we'll have to wait and see...also the gsxr has better build quaility check the history

I don't get caught up in all the hoopla when it comes to reporting numbers on bikes. Most of us never really use the total horsepower output anyway, so who gives a rat's a$$...

There are too many variables when it comes to dynoing these machines. We ALL agree that they are swift machines and we purchase them primarily based on our riding skills, comfort, streetability, trackabilty, etc. I personally put more into bikes that are dynoed with major mods like big bores, nitrous, turbos, etc. THAT's when you really expect the so-called "bang for your buck..."

I'm heading up to the Race Shop to get mine dynoed this afternoon. We'll see how it turns our?

Here is the dyno sheet of the 05 1000 i watched two weeks ago
