I had my rear tire changed 3 weeks ago. I gave her a good bath yesterday and I noticed the one side of the rim is scratched nearly alll the way around the outer lip. The other side has some good scratches too. This was done at the dealer where I bought the bike brand new this past feb. Do you think I will have any luck going and telling them I want the problem fixed? Or should I just go put my foot about knee deep in someone's a$$?

OK....Nobody has had this problem?

?

I'm sure my dealer would straiten it out if it were mine. He knows I'm lookin' for a second bike.

I would at least bring it to his attention.

I am hoping they will straighten it out. I am calling them tomorrow! Thanx for the reply.

I would tell them about it for sure, but you know they are not going to fix it after 3 weeks right? Thats why you should ALWAYS check your bike over good after having the dealer do any work to it. That way you can show them the damage happened when they had it.

yes as much of a pain as it can be.....I always take my bike or car just outside the shop entrance where I can take my time and look everything over before I ever leave the lot. Although thats almost always my cars because no one touches my bikes but me

yeah I definitely would say something... I took mine in and had mine put on..... since I have black wheels I was definitely on the lookout for chipped/scratched paint.

I just called the dealer. They are trying to tell me that it is probably an undersized tire and it draws the arm of the machine in against the rim. They say it happens to around 30% of the bikes and is hard to avoid. I told them I could see some damage after repeated tire changing but this was the first tire change on a brand new bike and I expected no damage. I told them I will be bringing the bike down to see what can be done about it. I'll try my best to keep my cool.

I hate to hear stories like yours. You rely on your dealer to service your bike/car/whatever with care and they screw it up. And what's with this undersized tire crap? A 17 inch tire is a 17 inch tire, and if the dealer sold you the tire he is even more responsible than if you brought the tire in, in which case he should still be responsible for detecting a problem that might damage the wheel. Don't call them scratches, call them scouring, as in enough damage to cause a wheel imbalance.

You have alluded to trying to keep your cool or performing proctological podiatry on the dealer. I presume you don't want to take your bike there in the future for servicing. I know I wouldn't. But don't get carried away if things don't work out. We live in a time of litigation and criminal complaints. You can't smack a**holes anymore. Will cost you thousands of dollars and possible jail time if you do.

Just got back from the dealer.  Guess what they did!  Cleaned the rim with brake cleaner and covered the gouge with a fricken sharpie!  WTF!  The service manager said this is what they do to all of the bikes!  Oh yeah...I got a free T-shirt!  I had nothing to say.  I was so pissed I was shaking.  I just turned around and walked out the door.  I will have to find somewhere else to get service done from now on.  Anyone around the Quad Cities in Iowa.....Stay away from Brenny's Cycle

I think its messed up that they pretty much knew that it was going to scratch your rim (the 30% part) but didn't tell you that it may happen before changing your tire. I would talk to the owner of the shop and tell him about it and suggest he get the right equipment to work on bikes without tearing them up. This kind of stuff pisses me off because I'm like you I like for my bike to be MINT and if it does get scratched I want to be the one to scratch it not some idiot running a tire machine. Good luck getting it fixed and stay far away from that shop from now on.

I would take the bike back and show them the damage. Hopefully this dealer takes care of their customers.

Most definately talk to the owner. They're bs'ing you about the 30% rim gouge story. I've been taking my rims off my bikes for years and taking them to shops for tire changes....now I'm picky about who changes my tires, but I've NEVER had a streetbike rim scratched...ever. I've only had one banshee rim gouged...and it was replaced on the spot, cause' I wasn't gonna have it any other way

Just be firm and let them know the problems only gonna grow if they don't correct it now....
