hard start busa

I have an 02 with Brocks Street Smart system on it. PC3R. When I first did these mods the bike became hard to start. Most of the time it would kick back on the starter. Then other times it would act like the timing was late and fire real lazy and sometimes light off in the pipe and back fire. Tried the bigger battery and there was no change. What I found was if I disconnected the power commander that it would start fine. Sent the power commander back to Dynojet for repair and it was some what better for a while. Now its back to that stuff again. Disconnect the PC and it starts fine.
My Question is this, Should I replace the PC3R with a new one? Or should I go with a PCUSB. Are there other people having what seems like repeat failures with PC3Rs The stock mapping and its low speed surging drives me nuts.

Johnny I sent you an email about this. You helped  me out on this the last time it happened. I bought this PC3R from you along time ago. On the TPS once you have it set and the PC programed to recognize it you shouldnt have to reset it should you. It has not been unhooked from the bike since I set it up. I really think its a PC problem. Thanks for your help on this

I will get it back on the bike and check it out. I sent an email to dynojet and they said I should check and reset the crank sensor air gap. From what I see in the service manual there is no adjustment to the crank sensor.

I can't IMAGINE you would have 2 bad PCs.

Me neither but this is the same thing it was doing the last time I had to send it in for repair. I put it back on the bike tonight and reset the tps to the PC. I will check it in the morning and see what happens

how did it go?

I think the 02s had starter problems didn't they? Was yours fixed?

kevin?

? do I have to drive over to your place to see whats going on?

Sorry about that. Yes it is fixed. I reinstalled the PC and reset TPS and it starts OK now. Well as good as it will start when its 25 degrees. Thanks JohnnyCheese

how the hell does the tps get outta sync? I wonder if I should piss with mine? Mine starts fine but I wonder if it will help idle better.

No I didnt try loading a 0 map and then loading Brocks map back in it. I take it that I should do that? I dont know what you mean by make sure theres no timing in it. I can figure that out I think.

R's have a timing table and if the map has timing sometimes it screws the signal generator. make sure you have no added or minus timing under 2K

Here is something I noticed when I put the PC back in. When I took it off the green fuel light was at the bottom all the way negative when the key is on and the engine was not running it stayed there when you started the engine. When I reset the TPS and was running it I noticed that the fuel light was 1 spot on the positive side. Today I hooked up to it to install the 0 map and the light was all the way negative again.I installed the 0 map and then put brocks b27 map back in it. The fuel light is still all the way negative when you turn the key on and when its running Seems to me that it should be in the middle or just above when its idling. I still think I got a Power commander problem. The timing on the map that I installed looks like it adds 1 starting at 2000 rpm at 100 percent throttle all the way up to 10500 rpms

I will have to see how it starts this week.If its OK then all is good.I just dont get what was going on with the fuel light on the PC when I resynced thr TPS. Its at the bottom now at idle and moves up as you rev it. I see that they discontinued the PC3R and now you buy the USB model and an ignition module. The ignition module does the timing adjustment. I might have to switch over to that set up so I could use the quick shifter.
Thanks alot for your help on this.

Well its back to the hard start. When its cold. Cranked and cranked this morning. When it firesyou can here it in the pipe and it sounds like it flooded. So I guess I will move to what they told me to do when I emailed them at Power Commander. They said to hook the timing connector back as it was stock and see how it starts then. If its ok then I need to close up the gap on the crank sensor. They say that I can loosen the screws and move it closer then tighten them back up. Not sure about that but I will check.
