Hard Starting - GI Pro / PCIII combo

Wow !! That was fast!

Twenty five minutes for a reply.

Here is the reply I just got back from HealTech.

"Hi Bob,

Thank you for your email.

We have thousands of customers with GIpro and Hayabusa, and this is the first time I hear about this issue.

The GIpro/ATRE will not interfere with the PC3.

Even if you use mode '5', ATRE is turned off automatically in Neutral. So, if you start the bike in Neutral, it should not make a difference which ATRE mode is selected.

I hope this helps, and please feel free to contact us again.

Kind Regards,
/Norbert

Cool, so that certainly helps to eliminate one of the symptoms.

UPDATE!

I don't know if many are following this thread.
I am getting a few PM.s as well.

However,
Last evening, I spoke to a tuner, who has a great deal of experience with this.
Hard starting is not uncommon, when you are attempting to use a MAP not specific to the MODS.

In particular, attempting to utilize a MAP specific to a full system, when only slipons may be used.
As well, despite what may be thought, Brand models may be manufactured differently and while you think a Yoshi Slip on may not the that different from a Hindle. they are.

Often times without getting on a Dyno, your MAPs mat be hit or miss.
Start small and work up.
Which is what I've now done.

Starting with the GI-Pro enabled and in MAP 5.
Gear selector in Neutral
Power Commander "Stock Bike" MAP.

Bike starts perfectly everytime!!

Starting with the GI-Pro enabled and in MAP 5.
Gear selector in Neutral
Power Commander "Hindle Slip Ons /KN Stock Filter" MAP.

Bike again starts perfectly.

Power Commander "Yoshi Slip ons / KN Stock filter" MAP.

Bike starts poorly.

I'm going to use the Hindle MAP with my Muzzy Slip ons.

Now I've adjusted the mid range mixture an single increment at a time.
This will be a bit of a process however, with out a Dyno available.
Will get the job done.

I'm making a trip through the New England States the first week of July.
It'll be interesting see how it performs over such a long distance.

I'll keep you posted.

I should let you try my map that was custom made on a dyno for me.  Similar mods.
Yeah, I'd be interested in giving it a go.

I have:

Muzzy carbon fibre slip ons. (Muzzy only makes the one model of Slip on for the Hayabusa.)
GI-Pro
Stock Filter. (A few weeks old)

Spark plugs are only a few weeks old, as well.

Ken says;
"If I was in your shoes, (and I'm not) I'd try a zero map in the PCIIIusb and the GIpro back to stock. If it starts better I'd try the fifth gear setting in the GIpro and leave the PCIIIusb in zero until you can get it on a dyno"

So I just went out and hooked her up.
Have a look at the RPM's displayed.
This is while the bike is off, but with the key on.

Might be the problem, with starting if the PC thinks the bike is running at 4500 rpms.

Once it's running though, the true RPMs and Duty cycle are displayed accurately.

What do you think?

So, I've ridden the bike for a few hours now since trimming the individual cylinders, and the bike is starting very well now.
Remembering that it has to be in neutral.

Using the Hindle slip on w/Stock or KN filter MAP, in combination with the GI-Pro set on MAP5.
I just can't get over the "face melting" pull the bike has now, from 5500-?? (The Rev. Limiter)
Honestly I'd never hit the limiter before, but now it happens so quickly. Like a bullet out of a gun.
However, I've noticed that when the limiter is reached, the FI light comes on. It will stay on until the bike is shut off and restarted, at which point it seems to reset itself.
I don't plan on making that a habit but occasionally It might happen.

It this usually the case or is it related to the Power Commander or am I using more fuel than the system can provide?
Perhaps I need to richen the High RPMs a bit.

Thoughts.

UPDATE:

I'm reading a significant number of threads invovling Power Commander issues lately.

My issues have continued to plague the reliability of my bike.
It continues to start poorly about one third of the time.
And it simply won't start in gear.
I've E-mailed the folks at power commander and they reply that gear selection should not effect starting.

I'm now using the 'Stock Bike" map supplied by the Power Commander web site.
But still, having troubles.
With the PC disconected the bike starts perfectly every time.

With a trip to through New England planned for next week, I removing the Power Commander and throwing it in the top of my tool box.
It'll likely stay there.

I'm now moving on..............240 Swing arm and tire kit may be in the works.
