Hard to Cool

I did the free exhaust mod last night.  I only put in 6 holes per muffler and she sounds much better than before.  Now she heats up quicker in traffic and doesn't want to cool as effectively as before.  Fan runs longer in 70 degs.  than it did when it was 95 degs. Any thoughts....other than I'm crazy.

Are ya sure that it's not just you revving it up more to hear that nice rumble ?

....just a thought .

I thought that was the problem at first

But I got out of the traffic onto the expressway then when I got off I got caught in filthy traffic again. I made it a point to keep from goosin' it. Sure enough she had a tough time cooling down.

i noticed my temp is a bit higher also with the new cans and mids, never goes past halfwaf

i did the mod. a while back and i really didn't notice any significant change in the temp. she stays right at the half way mark. i put 9 holes in mine and get a nice throaty sound. would it be possible that you changed your coolant recently and didn't notice the overheat problem until after you did the pipe mod.? if so, then your coolant needs a good burp. just a thought!

just did the same mod. haven't noticed it running any warmer. I'll keep an eye it tomorrow.

Na, I haven't changed coolant yet. That's slated for middle of next year. When it's out riding on open road it's fine...just seems like it heats up faster than before in stalled/slow moving traffic. I'm changing oil tomorrow..I'm going to give her a good once over then just to check things out. Thanks everybody for letting me know I'm at least partially sane. I've been a retail manager for 10 years..I'm little insane by nature.

maybe you have an air bubble or low coolant, just coincidental when you did the exhaust mod

Could be...I burped it right after I bought it and all was good.  But what the heck it won't hurt to burp the baby again. Coolant level is OK...I checked it when I changed oil yesterday.

I guess there must have been a little air in the coolant.  I burped her, but didn't see or hear anything.  Took her out and ran her, and she stayed right on target the whole time...even thru traffic.  I never thought it could have gotten another bubble in it after the inital "burp".
