Have cowl, need backpack that won't touch it

I'm lying already, the cowl hasn't arrived yet ... so I'm asking you guys!

I need the pack for non-motorcycle use also, so ideally it would be airline carry-on size, but I expect that would be too big for the cowl. I'd like the most volume possible without touching the cowl, even when I'm sitting up straight to stretch my creaky old back. I'm 6' 1".

I don't know at what speed a hard pack is needed, but when I wear the pack I can keep it below 90mph, no problem.

So I'm curious about your cowl + backpack experiences.
Any recommendations greatly appreciated!

Hi, welcome, I run a Ventura pack frame mounted on the tail sub frame, and a soft pack slips on the frame and locks on with nylon clips.
It's ideal for carrying stuff, does NOT touch the rear cowl (hump) and is ok at speeds of over 100mph, I've had mine to 160mph with no problems!

Thanks everyone for your input.

On my gen2 with hump, I have to switch the hump out for the seat when I wear a backpack. Just won’t fit as soon as I sit up anything near straight it rubs on the hump

Roger on that, mate. I'm wondering how small I need to go to avoid that. I'll know soon enough when the cowl arrives, this post is just an excuse to say Hi to everyone, nice to be here. This site is gold!

I gave up on backpacks on my gen2 and now run a giant givi top case. Only “backpack” I use sometimes is a small camelback bladder thing and have to use the back seat instead of the cowl or it hit the cowl if I leave it on.

Perhaps a flight-sized dry bag or duffel (with or without shoulder straps) lashed to the passenger seat?
