My cowl fits wonky and it has since I got my bike. I have 2 genuine Suzuki cowls that both fit like this. I’ve tried shimming the bracket that they clip into and it just makes figment worse.
It should look like this. You'll notice the small shim under the plastic and rear latch support and on the top a flat hard waster with a rubber oring around the hole of the plastics.
Underside. I deleted the grab bar myself. I’ve had the tail plastics on and off 5+ times and the fit is always the same. Everything else lines up perfectly for bolt holes and clips. I feel like my cowl issue has to do with where it snaps in at
What does the cross section of the subframe look like under the latch?
Is it flat? Level?
Is there any play at all in the latch if you loosen the bolts?
It looks like the latch itself is too high on one side.
The difference in the gaps where the blue arrows are make me wonder if that cross section the latch is on, is actually flat and level.
The gap on the shifter side makes it look as though the latch may be sitting lower on that side, which is the same side with the thinner gap between the tail and hump/cowl.
Your missing the washer that is inserted from the the bottom side of each 4 holes and the large flat washer that helps squish everything down. I'll send you part numbers. My bike came with the hardware when i picked her up but at the same time I purchased the hump for $250 from the dealer.
I did the install without taking the tail off, just bent the plastics up and took loving care when I inserted the washers underneath each 4 holes.
Use the existing Allen bolts you have. The first part number is inserted from the bottom side and faces up. The 2nd part number is the top washer.
Use German torque settings. "Good and tight"
Don't goof with your latch or you'll have to realign later.
Partzilla.com has them on backorder but more than likely so does the stealership.
It's important to get that exact hardware as they are also spacers to the perfect exact... fitment it matters. No Ace hardware. I understand your frustration and if you want to look at the tail ever again without the annoying tail gap then do it exactly...
Oh and send pictures of your tail when complete. I only accept payments of thank you!
They’re sitting on my shelf in a pile of a bunch of other stuff I have to install. Work has been crazy (my family owns a wedding venue) and when I get free time I ride instead of wrench. I haven’t forgotten I just haven’t had time.
