A buddy of mine bought a hayabusa around 6 months after he sold his cbgr600rr.Hes also in college like me and tells me that compared to the cbr the busa is way more expensive because of how it needs new tires all the times and since he gets the work done at the shop how much they charge more compared to the honda dealership.Any advice for a busa buyer who is also a college student with a rather limited budget?

the first thing you need to do is get an insurance quote if you are a limited budget the insurance cost could shock you and as far as maintenence im a tech at a honda zuk kaw yam dealership and we charge $66.00 an hour no matter what it is. and as for tires how long they last depends on how you ride

insurance for me on ANY sportbike is not even an option.I have checked with ALL the major companies. At 22 yrs of age no company wants to charge me less than 400 bucks a month for ANY sportbike. For that much i can buy another hayabusa if it gets stolen or wrecked.I was refering to general maintenance.Should i invest in that suzuki extended warranty?

you must have lots of tickets or something..

I got my 'busa when I was 22... it was a bit higher.. but not to the point I couldn't stand it.. $1500 per yer or something.. 130ish a month the first year or two..

it's cheap (relatively) now that I'm older, married, and still have a (mostly) clean record.

'bout $600

it does wear out tires... thats about the only thing it does faster than most other bikes,,, well aside from the obvious things it's does faster anyway.

Busa's are like anything else that are special. Your Insurance will hit you the most. It's like you asking how much is insurance on a car and then saying I am thinking about buying a Viper or Porsche

The extended warranty does not cover any maintenance....Busa's do wear out rear tires faster than most other sport bikes....other than tires they don't cost much more to maintain than any other type of bike.

busa not that $$$$. it does eat tires speaking of i just got a new one. but being that i got the busa when i was 22. payment was only $202 a month and insc $640 a year not to bad.

What does your record look like? I have paid $260 for 6-months on both my Busa's since i was 20.

Everything else is the same as any other bike. Other than the rear tire, the BUSA doesn't really need anything anyway. Just change the oil yourself when it's time and that's it. As long as you know how to adjust the chain and do the other basics, your set.

What kind of maintenance are you speaking of?

If you can't afford the insurance, you can't afford the bike.  I don't care what kind of bike you are buying.  Riding without insurance is irresponsible.  Irresponsibility will get you killed on a Busa unless you are very lucky.

im willing to pay as much as 225 a month for insurance. Not more than that.Find me a place that gives it to me for less than 225 a month and ill put full coverage on the bike.It would be more irresponsible for me (and my bank account) to pay more than that for insurance on a motorcycle thats costing me barely 210 a month with zero down for 5 years.

You don't need a BUSA just based on your mentality....

Finish College, get a job, make a steady income, and get a place with a lockable garage then get a busa. You think a busa is fast when your looking at it turn your back for a second and its gone.

or

Get a salvaged busa make it road safe and learn how to wench on it yourself. Most people will give you scratched up parts that still work. Few cans of black spray paint your finished. Busa on a budget.

busa on a budget is the way to go--you learn so much doin it yourself.

side note: you can buy a brand new bike with no insurence what so ever through suzuki credit plan---crazy

Check StateFarm...

If you do go and get a sport bike, don't get a Busa. It sounds to me like you're just looking at it because its the fastest thing you can put between yer legs. And there is nothing wrong with that, if you are prepared to take on all the responsibility that accompanies it. It just doesn't sound like you are mentally and financially ready for it yet.

You can't finance a bike without full insurance, can you? I mean, who would lend you that kind of money without a guarantee?

Seriously, if you can't insure the bike, just drive a car. I don't say that because I'm worried about the bike, I say that because I'm worried about YOU.

Yes, but what if you damage or hurt somebody you have no ins. to cover them. You have to think about other people not just yourself. I guess because you are young that is your thought process.

All of the insurance talk aside, the bike is fun to work on...invest in an owner's manual and do the work yourself...if I can do it, anyone can!

I've never paid for ANY routine maintenance on my Busa aside from the cost of mounting a rear tire. Ride it a bit more easily and you won't be paying to have a new tire mounted that often...don't listen to what these guys say...going through a new tire in 2000 miles, blah blah blah...

...the only thing I did pay for was to have it lowered and if I'd known how to do it then, I would have done that myself too...
