Hayabusa stalled

i am ashamed that i have such a beauty of a bike and hardly ride it. i am the original owner of a 2008 busa. the bike has 1957 miles on it. it's garage kept, i always run stabl in my tank, i start it once every 2 weeks and let it run for 7 - 10min and try and take it around the block when i am able. well in my 1st week of vowing to ride it more and after a fresh tank of gas, on my 2nd day out, the bike shut off on my in the middle of a ride. fortunately, i was still in the neighborhood and not on the highway. but going 45mph heading slightly uphill and the bike shutting off was a scary moment. when the bike shut off the oil light came on. the oil was last changed July 2018, but the oil has less than 100 miles on it. i am able to see that the bike has plenty oil through the viewing window. however, it did look a little murky but not dirty at all, not sure if the murky look was the viewing window or the oil itself. i had the bike towed to my local bike shop, but diagnostics is $180. i am trying to troubleshoot the best i can. any possible thoughts as to why this happened? any possible troubleshooting tips are welcomed.

Virtually impossible to accurately diagnose a fault such as this by a one line description of what happened.
When warming it up periodically as you said you do, let it run until you hear the cooling fan come on, if you only run it for 5 minutes, it's still running a fairly rich mixture and not good for the plugs or the initial start up wear due to low temp running/bore wash with excess fuel.
If you repeat this over and over, eventually the plugs get fuel/carbon fouled and spark poorly, if at all.
As far as the oil light coming on when it shut down, that's normal because that light only comes on when the oil PRESSURE drops below around 4 psi.
It has nothing to do with oil level.
If the motor stops, the light will come on due to no oil pressure. Normal.
If you have little mechanical knowledge/experience (as it appears), you are doing the right thing taking it to a shop for diagnosis.
I recommend either a Suzuki franchised dealer primarily, or a shop with an excellent reputation for correct diagnosis on faults.
Please let us know what the outcome is, good luck, it'll all work out in the end!

thank you for the response. my tug of war is paying $180 for a diagnosis only to find its an oil change that is needed. an oil change that would only run me $75. would an oil change and everything that goes with it, address the oil pressure issue? when the bike cut off, there wasn't a precursor or warning sputtering sound, it just cut off and i coasted to safety. i have attached a pic of what my instrument panel looked like after the bike stalled and i tried to restart it. when i put the key in and turned it to the start position, the green neutral light, and oil light was on. on my bike, the oil pressure gauge was pinned to the H above the red square.

Uh, that's a coolant temperature gauge, not an oil pressure gauge...if it was in the H (high) position, you could have real problems. If it shut down due to an overheating condition, real damage can be done to the internals of the engine. It could be a bad temperature sending unit causing the fault??

Some of the silverbacks on the site will engage with their vast knowledge.

thanks Yellow09. ill start there. ill give the shop a call on tuesday and have them check the coolant level. if full, which it should be, ill have them check the sensor.

I'll say this as nicely as I can, if you don't know the difference between a temperature gauge and an oil pressure gauge, let the shop do what they do.
On a different note, I think that with the key in the on position but not running, a warmed up motor will show hot on the gauge until you start it.

lol... did u READ KIWIS response???? its NOT an oil change.... go to a Suzuki dealership.... and really you should spend some time learning basic stuff (browse this forum for a few hours a day.... and youll learn a lot.

Mine only shows what the engine is...it doesn't stay on H...something caused the engine to shut down, if it overheated the safety sensor would shut it down

Does a gen 2 have an overheat shut off sensor?
My gen 1 will show hot after riding it, turning the key on but not starting it. Soon as it starts it'll go back to normal.

Let’s take a step back. There has been several threads of members freaking out, because their temp gauge is broke and reading “HOT” when the key is turned. That is NOT a problem. The gen2 sweeps the needles and the temp stays in the “hot position” until the bike is started, it then reads what is supposed to, once the bike is started. Like @Mr Brown mentioned, that’s normal temp. Gauge behavior.
did u read the thread (maybe previous).. this is a NEW OWNER/new company 100 American made..... brand new design.... not available even to the general public yet.... I support PH a million percent... always will

I’m not 100% sure, but I don’t believe the busa has such safety sensor.

Don’t take offense on this comment, but make sure you do your homework and take your bike to an honest/reputable shop, because you are not very mechanically inclined and a dishonest mechanic may want to take advantage of your lack of knowledge/experience. Again, not trying to be a smart ass here, just don’t want some shady mechanic to take advantage of the situation. Keep us posted on what the fix is.

Makes sense to me, something caused that bike to shut off probably (hopefully) before damage was done.

What is it doing now? Will it start?

When I start the bike, my temp gauge sweeps then rests on the temp it was at when I shut it off.

Ok yellow. Even though I’m not as good as Bryan with a camera, here is a short video of how my 2009’s gauge works. Hope this video helps the OP.
English is not my first language, so excuse my accent.

Notice as you started it, the gauge went to it's normal state? That's what I was meaning, once it starts it goes to where it was when I shut it off.

I was thinking the OP's gauge was staying at H and not changing.

It isn't normal for a bike to be running fine and then stop all of a sudden like that, we need more info I'm afraid.

I agree, hopefully he can provide more info and figure this one out.

There are a lot of replies here. I may have missed something when reading thru them...
My question is... Did you try to restart the bike when this happened?

He said he had it towed, so I assumed that even if he did, it didn't start back. But, that's a good question...

I'm thinking the oil light freaked him out. And he may not have tried to restart it. If that's the case there's a good chance nothing is wrong with the bike.
Kiwi Rider mentioned a possible issues with the plugs caused by running the bike for short periods of time. That's a valid point...
Murky Oil... Just my opinion. But when I put my bikes to sleep for the winter they stay that way. Especially the Harley being air cooled. Unless you get the the oil and the cases up to running temperature and keep them there for a little while. I think you actually are trapping moisture in the crank case. Not a lot. But if you do this dance often enough the moisture will show up in the oil. If you store a bike the right way. I don't feel there's any reason to start it until you're ready to ride it on a regular basis.
