Hell, if nothing else, it's a day off of work.

Did it ease up yet Jim?

Migraines suck and you indeed may have just experienced one...it's probably considered mild compared to what many get...I've had 'em for 15 years now and have yet to figure out a way to avoid 'em, to treat 'em 100% of the time, etc...just last fall I had the WORST one I've ever had...lasted 5 days...

If you're a caffeine addict, you may be getting headaches from the caffeine...caffeine gives headaches AND it can take 'em away. I used to pop Excedrin Migraine EVERY DAY, downed 'em with Pepsi...I was giving myself rebound headaches, some worse than others...I had to ween myself from the pills and drop the caffeine intake a bit...doc said I'd likely get a slew of headaches for about 6 weeks while my body 'readjusts', but I was fortunate and they were minimal...

Sorry to go on and on...I live with headaches and migraines all of the time...got tons of useless advice and info

Just hope it's gone today...

You picked the wrong week to give up sniffing glue....
No No.....I picked a bad time to stop shooting herione

On a weird note....I read an article about a year or so ago about headaches....A big research study was done on natural ways to give em the boot.

A headache is no more than swelling caused by excessive heat, that is why when you have a cold it usual is followed by headaches, believe it or not eating Ice or cold beverages was at the top of the list.  It is because you have a major vein that runs through your mouth and directly into your noodle causing cooling of your blood the fastest in turn cooling your body.  Ever had a brain freeze from eating ice cream too fast.

I know I know I am full of useless info.
+1 on that advice...

I found, completely by accident when I was out with back surgery, that if I felt a migraine or bad headache coming on, I'd sit with a frozen icee and it eased up...not 100%, but it can surely help...

Or, stick your head in a freezer! LOL

SEE? SEE? ? ? .. I was saying... IF you can figure out the perfect and consistant balance of caffeine thru your body [which you can't cuz everyday is a new inconsistant day for your body], THEN you will never get a Caffeine migraine.... otherwise....

it's worth ditching it for a month to see

Best thing I ever did was head to Vegas for my sister's wedding a few years back...it was so hot and I didn't want to get dehydrated, so I drank tons of water...kept off the caffeine for 4 months AFTER that drinking H2O and felt great...no headaches!!!

Of course, I eventually fell from the wagon and popped open a crisp, ice cold Pepsi and that was that...

Yep, that's the key...

Okay...update time...

I went to the doctor, and after talking to him for a while about everything that's going on in my life and the symptoms being displayed, he felt that this is more than likely a tension headache. He said that's why the hot showers provide some temporary relief, where if it were truely a migraine, it wouldn't have the same effect.

He's not ruling out other causes, but wanted to persue the tension route first. He gave me 3 week sample pack of an anti-depressant which he said he has seen help a lot of people, and also a muscle relaxer to take only when the headache starts getting bad.

I've got a follow-up scheduled in a couple of weeks to see how things are going and we'll proceed from there.

I've managed to keep the headache at bay somewhat, but it's still lingering there. It came back pretty good around noon yesterday, and then again last night about 10pm, and right now I can feel my neck tensing up. I have never had a headache that lasted more than a few hours until Sunday. Usually some Ibuprofen and a hot shower would take take of it. The part that concerns the doctor is the fact that I've been getting headaches about 2-3 times a week even though they haven't been too severe.

Thanks for the links and advice. There's some good reading and ideas in there.

Hope it works out for ya, strkr~

I quit going to the Doc's about mine~ everyone of them had a different opinion and none of what they perscribed id a bit of good for me~ One of them had me on Prozac.. no help there.. another tried Paxil.. again, no help... I pretty much gave up on them (the Docs) all together~
Ended up doing what WWJD had mentioned.. I cut out the caffines, I get very little if any at all these days~ Then I cut out sugars and started changing some of what eat every day, trying to find the 'trigger foods' and things that bring them on~ I also found that it helps tremendously to keep a 'drama' and stress free life~ OK, so keeping it stress free is quite tough, but I don't do drama and can't be around drama queens or kings~ I think it's the over whelming erge to strangle the living chit out of them that triggers my migraines!
wink.gif

I started having mine at an early age, like preteens, and then they mellowed for many years and came on strong again around my late 20s,, early 30's~ I don't get them as often anymore, since cutting out the caffines and such, but when I do get one... it's best to just lock myself in a dark closet somewhere~ Not only does it make things more peacful and easier for me, but it keeps me from going off on those around me... I get very irratable with a very low tolerence level when feeling ill~

Thanks Greg

I don't think I can get rid of the stress in my life since my 16 year old daughter gave us a Granson 3 months ago, and the loser boyfriend is, well, a loser. The only way to relief that stress isn't legal in the U.S., and knowing my luck, I'd get caught.

I might try to slowly cut out caffine, but I know that my body is addicted to it, so it will take a while. If I don't have any, then I get bad headaches. It's friggin evil I tell ya!

VA, I am clean and free of any addiction to caffeine. I do, however, go ahead and enjoy the occasional caffeine pop or HoHo's fully understanding I will get a killer headache two days later. I know the Pain for the pleasure, but I love the taste of Dew, Dr Pepper and chocolate on occasion and I dont feel bad about it. Other than those splurges, I have not had any other headaches in YEARS! Worth the effort. Definitely.

Jim, with less caffeine pumping everything up, you'll be a calmer person and the issues won't seem as elevated.

We can't change life as is, but remember a) don't sweat small stuff b) it's ALL small stuff in the big picture ;)

I have headaches at least 3 times a week usually migraines and I have to go where its dark and quiet... HEAT is the key for me... I can get into the shower or the whirl pool and feel fine... As soon as I get out my headaches come back....... I drink a pot of coffee before 8 am every morning 2 before 10am and then I drink several cups after lunch....

My name is Doug and Im a addict

Starbucks is my favorite

A sudden change in blood glucose level can trigger one heck of a headache. Check your sugar.

or
Tequila - works for me !!!!

That's why I know it'll be hard to even cut back.

WTF? It's back again

I even took one of the muscle relaxers

Just got out of a long hot shower and it feels a little better. I can feel the effect of the muscle relaxer making me groggy, but the pain is fighting it's way back.
