Ok, call me a sissy but when the pavement goes under 45 degrees or so, I park the Busa...

Reason being that no mater how much I warm the tires, wheel spin is always an issue... Note that today alone there are 2 or 3 posts from seasoned riders playing tarmac tag with their bikes...

IF you are going to ride around while the temps are this low, please lower your tire pressure a couple pounds and take it easy...

regardless how far you have gone, or how hot you think your tires are, you are going to have issues with tire spin and it happens so fast you will not know what hit you...

PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!! and happy riding!!
You 08 Guys now have a reason for B and C mode...

if you have one of those BMW 1200RT's disregard this ... you have traction control  sissy's

it's all about throttle control and knowing your environment......and thousands of miles of experience helps too  one of the things i am especially careful of is going across manhole covers, they are slicker than owl #%*^!!! it always seems that the transportation gods seem to love to put them right in the middle of turn lanes in intersections in small towns :beerchug:

Thanks for the heads up, but... I ride year around - no spin for me. Today was around 35, rode for about 30 min. Front tire temp got to about 70, rear to about 80. Cold pressure was 32/35, hot pressure while riding - 36/40. Ask me how I know? ???

When my tires were done almost to cords, the rear would spin when leaving a stop sign, and the front would lock like on sand when you are almost stopped - "fun" stuff. That's during warm season.

I ride if it's above 15 deg. Even if I can only ride for 15 min. Because any riding is better than no riding at all. I am packed with so many layers I can't even count them all. LOL. You would be amazed how much traction there is at such low temperatures. I would say that riding at 30 in the dry you have more traction than riding in the wet at 90 deg.

Well, anyhow, I can't go without riding for longer than 2 weeks.

Great advice and thanks for the reminder. I'll be out there tomorrow riding in the 30's so it will be on my mind. I'm with I.G., can't go too long without riding....makes me grumpy.

Thanks for the advice Randy. I think we will most likely be driving a truck or suv next week when we see you. But, the coldest I have had the busa out is at 17 degrees. Lots of cold, and tire slippage.

.
better check your tune up I guess if you have no spin problems in the 20's and 30's.. Corsa3's, Dunlop Qualifiers and the BT56's all spin at about 1/2 throttle on my 06 in first gear..

you might also note that the crashes seem to occur at very low speed and happen instantly.. And FWIW.. most street tires only loose about 10% of their traction when wet.. (most)

aww comon James, figured we could do squidly burnouts or wheelies up and down the road over there  Looks like Friday night.. Food, Steves and probably a nice BS session around a fire ... Karen really wants to meet you all you guys..

Cold weather diehard. But seriously, entirely different type of riding. Need to relax and go real easy on the inputs. Did a trackday at Laguna Seca in the pouring rain one time. That helped a lot.

yea anywhere the corners do not have stoplights tend to have cooler climates

hey i live in florida and was in a surprise the other night when it hit the high 30's and i was caught in my mesh jacket with the windliner out ... damn i was shaking like a junkie didn't help after the riding i was doing earlier my cords were peaking through getting a new tire mounted today when i get off work so yeah def got a lil wheel spin kickin it in first kinda drifted around a corner a lil ... but the more seriouse question it where do corners exist without stop signs you gotta be kidding right?

Thanks for the heads up. I ride all year round too. One thing that really helps is taking it easy on the throttle. No hard launched or anything like that. Another tip I can give is this. Short shift. I find it really helpful. I was just out there again last night when it was close to 30* and rode for 135 miles with no problem at all. I can't live without riding either. It hurts.

the stickier the tires are in the hot/dry the WORSE they tend to be in the cold
I have a Corsa on one rim and a older dunlop 207 on another
switch back and fourth in the cold and the 207 Still sticks okay in the cold
