Helibars or LSL on the new generation Hayabusa anyone? Would love to hear your experience

Considering buying a gen3 hayabusa mostly for general sport riding, and likely an occasional short 1-3 day trips. Have had all types of bikes over 40 years of riding, but prefer to be slightly more upright. Currently riding a tuono which is very straight up sitting and a great bike. But have always lusted after a busa: love the looks and the performance. Also the smoothness of large inline 4's like the ZX14 and hayabusa which don't come at the cost of poor fueling, lower speed smoothness and excessive heat generation so many other bikes have (tuono included to some degree).

Sat on a new one for awhile at a shop, and at 5'8" the reach is noticeable (though better than previous rides on a gen 2). I am sure I would start with helibars but also wondering about LSL/speigler superbike bars - have done this on some other bikes. And guessing someone will suggest working on core strength etc but that isn't going to do it - I am very fit, do a lot of cycling and most of it road bicycle with drop bars.

Would appreciate hearing from any of you who have made bar mods what your thought. Not interested in lowering the bike and losing ground clearance - and my lower legs are not an issue with the higher pegs.

thanks in advance

Bill

I have a gen 3 and installed Heli bars right away and love them, I am 5’9” 250 pounds, I also installed lower pegs and 1” taller wind screen. I think my Busa is pretty comfortable. I have no experience with the LSL. I would buy Heli bars again.

Was this on a gen 3? I thought the helibar option for current model is a plate? Or did you add 18mm plate to that? Stick cables all work?
No sorry, on my Gen2. But it makes the world of difference.

As far as I know, the gen1 and gen2 style Heli-bars are different from the gen3 type, as said above, the gen3 Heli-bar is a spacer/riser for under the top plate above the upper triple clamp.
So; has anyone tried gen1 or gen2 handlebars in a gen3?
Do they work? If not, what is different?
Gen1 and Gen2 stock handlebars (or Heli-bars) mount the same, with the small exception that the switch locator hole locations are slightly different, but an easy fix with a small drill bit.
Heli-bars themselves raise And change the angle. I had those and risers on my gen2 at one time too, and they made a noticeable difference.

Thank you. Appreciate the response - was it a noticeable difference from stock? Do you recall which pegs you used?
Only rode my gen 3 home from the dealer and immediately installed the Heli bars so never had any seat time with stock height. I have M-Factory 40mm pegs, they are clockable with a pin that locks them in place, I also put mine in my lathe and used a file to knock down the sharp points because I read someone complained of the sharpness was eating into the shoe soles. I’m sure I would find it less comfortable without the risers and lower pegs. Stock cables work with the Heli bars. Wish the pegs were an inch longer for looks but I don’t notice it when I’m riding..

Gen 3 Hbars is a riser plate, I think it’s an 1” up and 3/8” back towards the rider.

That's what I thought, thanks for confirming.
How do the actual handlebars themselves mount on the gen3, vs the gen1 and gen2(which are basically the same)?

I don’t remember off the top of head how the handlebars mount but I’ll take a look tomorrow and post. I just got through waxing my Busa 30 minutes ago which wasn’t a bad job, I actually enjoyed it.

The handlebars actually mount to the top plate. The Heli bar spacer measures 1” thick.

I wrote to helibars to ask if the prior gen tracstar helibars work with Gen 3. Their response was they are not compatible with the gen 3. Woulda been a nice option to couple the plate with the bars

But why is what I want to know.
All 3 gens have top plates with handlebars that slide in.
Are the gen3 handlebars a different diameter at their mounting point than the gen1 and 2?
It would seem foolish if they were, as most bars are the same diameter throughout, standard 7/8" for the grips.
Helibars will also tell you that gen1 Helibars dont fit gen2, and vice versa...but they both do, and are identical other than switch mount locator holes in slightly different locations, as said above.
I would not be suprised if the only difference in gen3 handlebars vs gen 1 and 2 is once again only switch locator hole location, and that gen1 or 2 Helibars will actually fit the gen3.
Hopefully someone with a gen3 and a gen1 or gen2 can check their handlebars for differences.
