Helmet Mods and tweaks

I apologize for the last post here under my name.  It was done by a 21 year old co-worker. He gets on this site and it automatically greets me with no password or anything. This kid has a GSX-R600 and his brother and I own 'Busas. I knew he was logging on under my name but didnt know he was doing stuff like this. The matter will be handled tomorrow. I just dont know how many other post are out there.

Personally, I've crashed hard in 2 different Arai helmets and they've kept me alive without concussion. I've never owned an HJC to put it down or praise it. I've also owned a Shoei and have nothing bad to say about it. I just have a big oblong shaped head and the Arai fits me well, though it is a little noisy and despite closing the vents it gets drafts.
Same here man, The posts kind of got on some nerves of a few people. This site is designed to help people not put anyone down, so thats why I got defensive. Glad the problem is corrected and look forward to many more posts to help everyone out. Sorry about the confusion.

Ok, here are some pics of my lights in my helmet that Mad S. did for me.

Keep in mind, they are not as bright as they usually are, I havent chareged the battery in about 3 weeks.

At full charge, driving at night, with my dark tinted visor, the red lights are bright enough to shine through the tinted visor and gives off a red glow on my tank, gauges etc.

I have been told at night people can see me from a long ways away. In other words added visability.

Not to mention they are bright enough to read with and since they are red, using them at night does not mess with your night vision.

Here are the pics..

First one is in low light without the lights, dark visor

This is also the helmet that I have the Kloss stereo speakers in that I listen to my MP3 player with.

WOW thrasherfox, that's pretty badazz.
Those things are bright, I bet they shine so much that you can actually see out of that tinted visor at night with them.

Don't know what I personally would use them for (don't read maps at night and can see speedo display fine), but if someone mass marketed them, I'd pick up a set just for the trick factor!!!

Yeah the trick factor is cool. I almost get double takes when i look at people with them on. Their second look is like "WTF" lol

..I was kind of wondering myself.. what is their REAL use except for the "trick" factor?.. I know around here instantly I would be called a dork if tried those on - even for size! lol

thrash, no offense man - they look great, but wtf! goes a long way.. I mean, ok for the second looks but WHAT IF those were accompanied with LOUD LAUGHS! (..I guarantee you this for a fact! I would be the fool of the town if I was cruising around like that..)

Just tell me you are not lit up like a Christmas tree when cruising!..

Cool pics, Thrash! I might be interested in some lights, but I am more interested in the self-tinting visor for an HJC CL12 and Shoei RF900 helmet. I don't generally have a problem ridin' around with my dark smoke visor at night, but it would be nice to have something like that.

Well for one Wizard, you are totally right, some people might call someone a dork for wearing something like that, and yep, they could be considered a little too "bling bling"

But to answer your question, I have never been one to follow the crowd, I like to carve my own path in this world and well, other peoples opinions really don't matter much to me.. I do what I want.

Have you ever seen pictures of me in my riding gear? waaaayyy over kill dude. I am leathered from head to toe. And I should be receiving my body armor in today, wait till you see that. I have people I work with that ride that just shake there head. They has WTF, and everyone I have talked to said they never get that dressed up, or they would never where something like that.

Well, these people I don’t even think own a set of leathers.. And that’s cool

I am sure lots of people (especially a lot of experienced riders) look at me and think I am a dork for wearing all the protective gear I wear.

I don't care. I have my reasons for wearing it, most of which I ride like an idiot often and I want as much protection as possible.

As for functionality of the lights? the largest positive aspect that I can see of having them is visibility. meaning I stand out, people see me, if they are laughing at me.. guess what? they must have noticed me. That is what I want. when I am on my Busa I WANT people to see me, I want them to know there is a motorcycle there so I have a better chance of not getting run over by them.

It is like when a vehicle is driving with their high beams on during the day, you notice them, they stick out.

At night, trust me, when you are way down the road at night and you see headlights, that is one thing, people tend to tune headlights out a little. if they have their high beams are on you notice them more. If you see two floating red orbs hovering above the head lights.. that is not normal, so most people will take exceptional notice.

So no offense taken at all. I can totally understand the whole geek factor, nerd factor. But alot of people think people who wear leathers form head to toe are geeks / nerds. I am not going to risk my safety, or jeopardize my ability to come out on top of a bad situation because I am worried about other peoples opinions..

And yes, I probably am little up light a Christmas tree when I am cruising, with any hopes people would put gifts under my arse muah ha ha

Anyway Wizard, if I get my body armor in today I will post a pic of me in full gear, body armor and all, with my helmet on and lights on. Then you can post a picture of at your work and let everyone laugh at it… lol….

..thrash, I knew you wouldn't mind - you are one of those people who CAN identify insult from fun..
smile.gif

also, thanks for the detailed answer.. In essense, you said nothing that can be indicating something seriously "wrong" with you, your taste in clothing or general mental health - yet, I would not wear this thing even if my headlights were off and my wristwatch hadn't phosphore dials!.. You are right in one thing though; you DO like to carve your own path, and for that alone you deserve respect.. (..actually, all of us do, somehow..)

Pics would be welcome - especially when cruising at night down the street, with all that bling! litten up and fully charged.. THAT I would like to see..

Also, when pics of the auto-tinting visor came along, or - better yet - when your friend comes up with a product/price please make sure you let us know!

Thanks again - and God bless! (..also those who will see those two tiny red eyes on a "creature" riding on a bike-something coming their way.. ..boy, will they have a story to tell to the wifey that night!..

Wizard -

Actually I didnt look at your email as insulting OR in fun.. I just took it as an honest assesment and your point of view.. had no problems with it in any respect.. And acutally I might go out on a limb here and state that your thoughts about the bling blint lights are probably shared by most. So I would guess you are in the majority.... which is why I like it.. if everyone go the bling bling lights, then I would not longer be special.. and I LIKE being special lol

Now that was funny about the head lights off and phosphores dials!!! lol.... rofl.... ehem.. hmmmm.... wait.... phosphores dials?

phosphores dials!!!! thats it!!!! I could add phosphores to my bike somewhere!!! THANKS!!!!!!!! muah ha ha

I made the the system (entitled SWITCHBLADE) originally to be used as an onboard power source that could be used to power anything on or in a helmet, any device could simply be plugged into the helmet. The lights were meant to be used if you needed to see something at night, higher visibility, and just cause they look cool. The system powers defogging fans built into the chinbar, the HJC chatterbox, will power the sportvue (www.motionresearch.com), and can recharge your cell if need be. It is totally self contained safely in the chinbar weighing only 1.2 ounces and gives you 3.7VDC 600mAh of power or up to 7.4VDC 600mAh power like Thrasherfox has. I call it the switchblade because it is totally customizeable meaning you can use any combination, color lights, fans, etc to suit your taste--and you can switch the whole system out and use it in any helmet of the same size/style. An example would be if you wanted to go riding in the day (hot) and you wanted to use the chinbar with the fans built in for defogging purposes, you could switch your normal chinbar out and switch in the unit and off you go. If you went riding at night, you could switch the fans out with a chinbar with any color lights and off you go. You get the picture. If your bud had the same size and make of helmet you did, you could put your system in his helmet and it would work the same. HJC will be marketing this as an aftermarket product in the Spring and I hope it will do well.

I started a poll with pics of my helmet and the lights outside at night. gives a better visual of how much more visable I am at night.
