Helmet or no helmet?

What I can't understand is how a state could allow riders to choose to wear a helmet but won't let them split lanes.

And you should sign a waiver protecting the rest of us from high insurance rates.

Insurance companies have the right to deny coverage to whoever they want and can also deny claims. I don't imagine that a helmet clause would be hard to write into an insurance policy.

Don't get me wrong, I never ride without a helmet, boots and gloves. I rarely ride without my jacket, and frequently ride in a 1piece leather suit. I understand the importance of proper safety equipment. Heck I saw a few rider safety contradictions on my way to work today. A Harley rider wearing a bright orange safety vest, but still no helmet and a guy with a helmet but also wearing just shorts and a tank top. I even mentally chastise them for their lack of forethought. When it comes to helmet laws though I'm more concerned with the loss of liberty than whether or not it is a sound decision. I just don't believe it is the place of government to dictate this to us.

If we are going to start making laws to improve our insurance rates I would like to see a ban on all tobacco products followed by the return of prohibition.

Thats a bit ironic I may say.Protest a law that would save your life and you die.:poke:I saw a few people on the way home that were on bikes and barely dressed. One on a CBR with shorts,tee-shirt and nikes.A pair, husband and wife on harleys with tee-shirts, no gloves and tennis shoes. He looked pretty green on the bike with his ape hangers and riding the e-lane stripe.I am fully covered from boots to helmet. It gets warm but oh well right.

And you should sign a waiver protecting the rest of us from high insurance rates.

Your so wrong here, I work in a hospital and I see many squids laid up in the Pumpkin Patch (Trauma) no health insurance or anything. This may sound imoral to some but its facts, Most of em would be 6ft under cause you know most of em wouldnt wear helmets.
Cheaper to burry em then to keep to feed em through a tube and guess who pays for that when they have no health insurance,, Yupp the tax payers.

I don't care where I'm going, how long the trip is, or how tough I am. I REFUSE to ride without a helmet..... You slip on a snail turd and you could wake up, not being able to move, a machine breathing for you, your family crying and in pain, and you did it to them. No thank you, Helmet please.

That is exactly how I woke up....Good thing I WAS wearing my helmet. I don't care if Im just going to my mail box, no helmet...no ride.

I've been riding 16 years and I always wear a helmet. However i believe it is one's personnel choice if they want to be safe and wear a helmet or not. If a passenger is riding they should be required to wear one, because there not in control of the bike. Every rider understands and knows there is an inherent risk associated with motorcycle riding. Each of us must weigh the risk with the reward to decide for one's self on how safe they want to be.

HELMET, HELMET, HELMET, HELMET, HELMET.....

My neighbor was killed a few months ago because he refused to wear a helmet. he was hit at an intersection 3 blocks from home when an old lady ran a stop light. the collision was at less than 25 ph. the bike has only a few scratches and a broken mirror. his body had no injury except a minor scratch and a bruise. but his head did not fair well against the asphault when he fell over. internal bleeding killed him 3 weeks later in intensive care. so pls pls pls wear your helmets. if not for you, do it for your family. its so sad to see a woman widowed because you enjoy your "wind in your hair."

Cant say he didnt have warning. Sorry to hear about another one down. And did you notice its mostly harley peeps that dont want to wear a lid, or gear, or sleeves. Dunno... maybe its me, lid and leather.

I agree that it is your own prerogative and I personally where one no matter how and where I ride, but it is law here in Canada. And it is law, not to save all the Darwin cases, but since our government offers free health care, they thought it was in their best interest to make helmets mandatory. Good on them!

I guess not wearing a helmet should be your choice such as wearing a seatbelt should be your choice but laws are laws and put there for some reason.I wont ever ride without a helmet.

Im from Birmingham Alabama, and when I ride my bike down to Panama City Beach Florida I will ride without a helmet if Im only staying on the Front Beach Road, speeds dont get very fast on the front beach road, mostly stop and go, but if I know im gonna get on the bypass I wear the lid, speeds go over 60mph on the bypass and Ive seen bad accidents on the bypass during Thunder Beach when they get back there on the bypass with no helmets and to much to drink.I drove my car down to PCB last week, and coming home saturday morning I seen where a man on a bicycle was struck and killed while riding in the bike lane on Hwy 98 just outside of PCB
