Help guys, stuck in Nevada?

At motor cycle weekend in Laconia one year I was on My buddy's CB5550 and something in the wiring went
We ran a 12v DIRECT to the Point's and coils,,,,,,,rode it home
no charging no lights no starter

AHHHHHH the olden days:rolleyes:
simpler is better than complicated.

I have grabbed ahold of live wires in my house while trying to replace fixtures and I think it made my heart skip a beat and it was painful... but still... I lived... ya just cant touch em both at the same time.... its quite a show if u do......

If you can find an auto electrics shop, they maybe able to hook you up, with a repair. The bike's charging system is basically a small alternator.
I've replaced the voltage regulators in GSXR's like this with Mitsubishi part's off an alternator shops shelf.
As well as they will have brushes also.
Much cheaper than an Oem replacement

One should maintain a sense of humor when faced with adversity shouldn’t one?

Lucky you got yourself home fairly quickly CBXRider , that pup of yours looks like he could get hungry real quick ... Certainly he looks like he definitely thinks you indulge yourself too much already , on your many motorcycle joy rides bro  !!

Went window shopping and the fix is either $300-$450 or $700-$800. The higher price is for the conversion alternator but damn, it’s twice as much as just repairing the original stator. What could be problematic with just a repair is possibly more expense for a bearing, seal, rotor shaft, coupling discs, brushes and shop labor. I don’t have a press or even a vise. Priced some Ohlins for it too and they’re almost a grand for the pair! I have Konis on it now but the springs are kinda weak. They’re ok though especially for what Ohlins would cost. I’d really like to do the alt conversion but $800? High blue book is almost 11K. Wonder if I should just sell it before I have to pay for a full top end rebuild. I’d hate to spend that much more money on a new alternator and then burn a valve the next day (they’re 24 of them). It’s never been a maintenance nightmare by any means but I put nearly 50,000 miles on it (after) it was 23 years old. It will be 40 next year and is bound to need more work and $$ than I’d like to deal with. As bike ages go even my Busa is already 12 years old and has over 60,000 miles. What’s it going to need sooner or later?

I'm guessing it will be hard to part with the old girl after so many miles together . If you can afford it , you could put it away as an investment on blocks and carry on with just the Busa ?
Maybe , like you said , make the break , sell it on , better to have great memories than tainted with future , at best , possible potential headaches .
You do so many mile CBXRider that if you don't keep on the very top of maintenance , as you obviously always have in the past , can otherwise get you in potential problems . Then you also got wear and tear failures , all able to cause trouble , such as roadside breakdowns , in your case , often many miles from home .
This sort of motorcycle devotion is never going to be cheap , as you well know , but perhaps a new fresh ride would be another option to consider ? Or , the Busa gets a freshen up , ready to stack up many more miles of addictive ride , and you get to save a bit of $ from the sale , which is always a good thing .
At the end of the day , usually flesh and blood wins over machine , when it comes down to the hard decisions , so machines come and go in your life .
Good luck with your decision bro , not the end of your story , but another chapter , and hopefully we still get to share your experience through your excellent tour guide posts .

If you go for the "stock repair" it should be good for another 40 years so even though maybe superior why spend so much more? The old girl is doing nothing but going up so don't rush into any decision.
I don't know what you run but using amsoil will give you way more miles on your top end. That's why when you do oil analysis and compare you ALWAYS find 10% of the metal that you find in conventional dino oil.
