help! handle bar holder

My new busa o4 limited, came in with a large gauged scratch on the handle bar holder. I oredered and received another one.

Is it possible for me to do the swap or must a dealership do it?

Do I have to disassemble the forks or can I just unscrew the handlebar holder, switch handlebars and toggles, and reinstall?

Is the handlebar holder indipendent from the bracket underneath it holding the forks?

I would rather do this myself than take a chance on the dealership scratching or screwing up the bike.

Suggestions? Answeres?

THX in advance

Damn,

I thought the handlebar holder in your title was for a cup of coffee! Let the dealer do it and make sure he does it for free. He'll be on the hook if it's screwed up again. How many times have you tried to take something apart and have a sh*tload of parts fall all over the place. Then you get to guess how the thing goes back together. And you want to do this to the steering on the world's fastest production motorcycle?

Jay, not a big deal, but, not knowing your skill level, let your dealer do it for safety reasons.

Where are you from in VA and where did you buy your Busa?

Also, did you hear about our big ride this Saturday?

Postal.

I live in Chesapeake Virginia.  I did not know about the ride this Saturday.

I bought the bike from Burchams in Colonial Heights.

Please let me know any of those details.

If it only requires me to disaasemble the handlebar holder without affecting the forks or steering clamp, then I can do it. My concern was centered on any affect to the forks or front wheel. I can remove the handlebars and wire routes . My concern was what affect it had on the stuff under the handlebar holder?

I put a new windscreen on and polished up the body, I hate to relinquish it to the dealer. I would rather spend two hours doing it myself than leave it with Cycle World (VABeach) for two days. They don't seem as meticulous as I am.

Burchams is 2 hours away, and even though they said they would cover it, I did not want to have to ride the bike up to them and have no way back or have to wait a few days as they "fit it in".

So I ordered the part and have all the goodies, and was trying to decide if I wanted to do it instead.

Thank You for any pointers or knowlege on this. Otherwise I will drop the bike of at Cycle world and pay to have them do it.

The bike is great other than the eye sore on the handlebar holder.

Note, I just sold my 2003 K1200GT, this Busa is not a step down. BMW makes a good product, it just didn't "do it" for me

If it is just the dark grey plate that actually holds the handlebars, do it your self. it will not effect the forks at all, those 4 shinys caps just pop off and under them are 4 bolts, remove those and the handlebars will come up, you will have to remove the bars and the control parts(turn signal, starter switch, horn, kill switch assemblies)

As long as you do not undo the clamps underneith that plate the forks wont move and you do not need to worry. I took mine apart the other day just to see how it worked and have not had a problem since. AS long as it is just the plate you do not need to worry.

Yeah shoul dbe pretty simple, though if the dealer is replacing the part, let them handle the swap.

Still though it is just about 6-10 bolts...
