(jjmetheny @ Feb. 07 2007,07:06) A 6mm tap and bolt works great. Some use a self tapping type bolt so they don't have to tap the hole.
If you want metal shaving in your block !

+1 you're going to get some metal shavings into your engine

Good call, glad the experts are here.

That's odd I didn't get any shavings in my engine

Yes, with a 6MMX1.0 tap.

Do a search and you will see another member (mechanic) doing the very same mod with that part removed. He also showed the remains of metal shavings in his rag as an example and recommended not to do it this way, becuase there is a very good chance when pulling the rag you will chance dropping some shaving in there.

Just being helpful !!

Nothing could really get into the block, but it could get into the cylinders and valve seats. I think if you were careful enough you could make sure the exhaust valves were closed, use a rag and air as pictured, then blow the ports out when done, you probably wouldn't get anything in there. If you did, it'd be small and blown out when you cranked it.

If I had the time, I probably would have gone that route, but I just wanted a quick block off.

Just hack saw/cut the tube part OFF of stock plate, grind smooth and weld in/fill hole with weld and grind smooth and replace.
