I don't agree with it, but the tariffs against Mexico I can see being legit. Canada? No way. It's Trump sticking out his chest, although it still doesn't protrude as far as his belly. The problem is, Canada was a friendly neighbor; yes, past tense. For every decent thing he does, he does four terrible ones.

Blanca you agree with 25% tariff on Canada? I understand Trump wants people to buy American, but we just finished an election where the people spoke and said prices of goods was the biggest issue. His plan will make it worse way before it gets better, not the direction his followers were hoping for.

I can tell you.....each and every economist across the US, Canada and the world all say introducing tariffs are wrong and will only further hurt economies including Americas......the Canadian and American economies are intertwined.....
Canada up to now has always been a loyal, trustworthy trading partner with the US......
My sister in Florida said they have imported Canadian grain and hay because of drought, fire and flooding in the US......she said getting these products from Canada has been a "God send."
The humorous part is the American co-president said that the NAMSA deal was the worst and he was the one that drafted it and signed it while at the time spouting that it was the best deal he ever made.......I can find the videos on that if anyone doubts it......
I will most likely ask this to be moved and then opt out of it.......my bad......

Other nations have natural resources which the US industrial complex needs in order to keep up with demand......it's been like that for hundreds of years and after the folly of these devastating tariffs are realized, it will be again.....
Remember....tariffs are another word for tax......and the exporter doesn't pay these taxes....the end user does.....and the importing country doesn't have to carry the cost of extracting and processing the product ....mining and other processes are extremely expensive and labor consuming....
Canada provides a lot of natural resources to the US of which America needs...resources that we have large supplies of and the US hasn't....nickel, uranium, potash, and the list goes on and on....
Warren Buffett isn't a stupid man.......he and all the other world renowned economists can't all be wrong and Trump be right....
I can honestly see imposing tariffs on hostile countries like China and others who steal American and other technologies through espionage and actively use slave labor to reduce their costs for exported items....
But Canada? Nobody, anywhere sees the logic in imposing tariffs on Canada......there are a lot of American businesses that are terrified of losing everything over these tariffs.....and that's not right by any stretch of the imagination......
The US is quickly becoming the bully of the world surpassing Russia as the number one bully.....why go after all it's allies? It makes zero sense as the US makes a killing from all of it's exports to it's allies........
There are no winners in this trade war and all economies including the American one will suffer......
Canada is working at other trade partners which will gladly take all the resources we can give them and be thankful...when that kicks in....it won't be good for the American market.....

I personally get that........being the "instant teller" for some of the world's worst places is a tough pill to swallow....
However.......if this resource was better managed.......there is a lot to be said about placing the "American Brand" in a positive light out there in the world that is priceless........I've personally seen warlords kick the crap out of rebels that threatened USAID people because they knew these people were sustaining life for some of the most impoverished people in the world.....those same warlords save the lives of a few American soldiers as well because of the positive "American Brand" being out there......
It is sad that the only way to gain respect is to provide humanitarian aid, but that's the way of the world.....the US has historically been seen as a savior but like all things, this gets abused.......in that aspect, I personally believe it should have been reeled in and better managed verses ceased altogether......
If the impoverished turn to say China.....now the "Chinese Brand" will be out there replacing the Americans.....warlords will side with whomever takes care of their people......sadly......

I don't get the hard on he has for our Canadian border......more things come from the US to Canada than the other way around.....guns, drugs and illegals all come here from the US while there is a bit of drugs going to the US from here, it is a miniscule amount....something like less than a point of a percentage point......

I didn't think it was a great idea when Tariffs were placed on our closest trading partners when he did it weeks ago. Yet I saw the reasons why and when both Mexico and Canada took some action to have them lifted I was happy they were lifted
And now he is re-applying them despite the fact that they took action. I support them even less this time. I haven't heard he is picking a new reason for this round.
We need Mexico's cheap labor and cheap produce. We need Canada's resources. I hope he pulls back on them. Meanwhile, I support both countries retaliating with their own tariffs. We need to have a stronger North American powerbase for manufacturing and farming. You do that by being partners. We are never going to be able to build a car cheaper by using American waged workers. We can by Mexican labor. Which in turn helps Canada buy cheaper as well.

I never said stop all of it. Turn all of it off. I did say slowwww down and let's open it up and look at all things. Exactly what's being done. And yeah at the speed of light many stupid things we were paying for got shut down. GOOD. Only people whining are Trump haters.
......however.......it got all shut down and all the employees were fired and treated like garbage......people working abroad were even unsure as to how they were getting home and how they would live when they got here. It's probably a heck of a feeling to not only be fired but not know how you are going to make your next mortgage payment regardless of the reason.....

There are a lot of Trump swing voters and republican voters who are very upset as well......and so they should be....
A lean, light government is what your founding fathers envisioned and I get that.....they also didn't envision all the issues of modern society like the drug epidemic and all the veterans with lots of health and medical issues who are now out in the dark as the VA took a hit the same as many other government departments.....a clear, calculated, well thought out approach to reducing the size of the government would have been far better than what was done.......lots of the people affected by these governmental dismissals were Trump voters, they aren't all democrat aligned people.
We need to do this in our country as well but I can guarantee you it will be far better and fairly done......
