High beam

On the highway etc... Can you tell you highbeam helps? I can only really tell when I am on a road with a canopy or trees close on the sides. It seems like the low beam puts out more light, with street lights on the side of the road I can't even tell I switched to high beams. or that it really does much.

It depends on how they are aimed, and unfortunately they cannot be adjusted individually.

I can tell the aim is fine when in closed canopy type road, it's the brightness on the open road (street lights etc) can't tell a difference. can you?

So, if the surrounding area is bright enough for you to not notice the use of the high beam...
why would you even need to turn it on then? See Lil Charlie's comment.

I thought they stock hi beam was useless, I switched the hi and low to 35w 5000k HIDs.
Now the low beam is useless:laugh:
The HID low beam has a scattered pattern that looks like a Christmas tree(if I rotate the bulb in the housing it only gets worse).
The HID hi beam however is much better than stock and I can see very far down the road.
I did have to ride around at night and make alot of small adjustments until the aim was right.
I also have never be bright lighted by oncoming traffic for having my hi beam on.
The HIDS don't seem to like being flipped from hi to low and vice versa either, as the hi beam can take up to 10 seconds to come back, if at all.
The HIDs are an improvement over stock, but still not enough lighting for me at night. I ride alot of unlit country roads too.
Hayabusa headlights(like most sportbikes)are not even close to what they need to be.
Sorry for the long post.

The bulb color/temperature also makes a difference as to what background it doe/doesn't show up well against too.

The headlight on the Gen2 sucks, even with HID in my opinion. Since you cannot adjust the low/high individually, you cannot get them right. So you either have to live with the high too high, the low too low or a combination of both. After some playing around I got them as best I can, the high is a bit too high still, and the low is still too low. So I added some 3000Lm LED driving lights, and now I am golden

I should of stated the are both 8000 HID lights. (High and Low)

8000 is a bit high IMO, the light is very bluish (UV) and not as good for illumination. If you are looking for more usable light 4300-5000 kelvin is where it's at. Between my 4300k HIDs and 5000k LEDs, it is like daytime in front of my bike when all are on

Here are my pictures... am I being to picky or is the high beam sucking?

Is your high beam on in all those pics? Do you have a pic with just your lows on? It's really hard to tell light from pictures.

If it's under warranty take it to the dealer. I have an '08 and my factory lights are fine. I try not to ride at night because of deer, but if I get caught out I'm good. From the pix it looks like your high just overlaps your low.

Just for the crap of it; did you walk around front and make sure the high beam was burning ? :dunno:

The first pic is low beam, second pic is high, third pic is high and 4th pic is low.

Based on the pics, then it looks like your low is adjusted pretty high, so your high beam is prolly illuminated tree tops. Like I said, the adjustment on the Gen2 sucks. If your low beam is where it should be, the high is way too high.

I have 5000K HID lights, the only time I can really tell a difference with my high beam is either on country roads with trees or the reflective street signs, though I can see those signs a mile away.

This.
My lowbeam looks good if the hi beam is literally in the tree tops.
Otherwise the low beam is scattered and looks awful, and it really is useless, but that's the only way to get the hi beam right.
