Pacific Coast Highway (US 101) doesn't actually run to Seattle. It starts/ends in Olympia, the State Capital, south of Seattle, and goes around the Olympic Peninsula to the coast. If you start in Seattle, it takes an extra half a day to drive around the Olympic Peninsula.
A quicker way would be to go south on Interstate 5 to either Longview, then follow the Columbia River to the coast at Astoria; or go further south to Portland, then go west to the coast on one of the smaller highways.
A good reason to go to the mouth of the Columbia River, at Astoria, and to stop in Seaside, Oregon, is to learn some history of the place, if that interests you. There is a museum in Astoria. The stories of the expeditions of Captain Cook and Captain Vancouver, exploring the west coast of North America, and the expedition of Lewis and Clark, are good to learn about. It is the story of how this country became like it is, the people who actually did it, and what they went through. Not stupid cowboy movies, but what actually happened. The real story of that place is much more interesting than movies.
