I'm thinking about buyin one of these, theres one in my town for $9000, its an 02 with 89,000 miles.

anyone have any input????

i work for honda dealership and s2000 great little 2 seater. 6 speed manual short shift and crisp is nice to shift. great handling car, almost 50/50 weight ratio gives it great handling and double wishbone suspension. ride is bumpy if you are ok with that. a little noisy because of being convertable with top up.
it is a 4 cylinder and you have to rev it high to get the result but it sounds really good  vtech engine opens up around 6500 rpm up to 9000 redline.
most of our customers love the car, very reliable and not any issues mechanically.
sounds system sucks on s2000 so you have to upgrade them if you want to hear something with top down.
becareful with slippery road since it is rear wheel drive, that can get out of hand.
rear tire rubber goes fast ( not as fast as busa ) and you can't rotate because they are different size.
very low maintenance too.

i would check the history of the car and find out how many owners it has had in past, those type of cars, some people can abuse them.
price is good but have it checked by someone to make sure nothing wrong with it.

good luck

thanks for the input, not too worried about the noise, I'd probably invest in a hard top if I really liked the car, not my first rodeo with drop tops.

thanks for the advice though, mechanic experience above all!

my uncle just sold his last week for $16000 7500 miles lowered changed the rear end gears wheels tires and super charged it was a blast to drive. i have an srt 10 for sale if you are interested

honda 2000---- cheap, made of plastic... very tiny... no low end power.. but awesome motor.

pass

well I am looking for a convertible(toy), manual shift, rear wheel drive.

So its a cheap, light, 6speed, RWD, with a bulletproof motor perfectly sized two-seater to me.

Well since you are into cars that don't necessarily dictate your manliness, why not get a an old SCCA Mazda Miata? Roll cage, headers, suspension... and so on. :beerchug:

In the $9,000-11,000 ball park.

I drove a Boxster the other day, it was fun yeah but repair bills are out of control, don't wanna deal with that.

The interior is actually really nice in the S2000... That's american cars that you are thinking about with cheap interiors. :poke:

I am a member of an S2000 forum, and attend meets regularly.

They are great cars, very reliable, and capable of 700+HP on the stock motor Turbocharged, no internal mods other than a thicker head gasket.

Drivetrain holds up well at 500HP and over that it will last for a while as long as it's not beaten on.

$9k for an 02 with under 100k miles is a pretty good deal.
What color is it? Personally, i'd pay an extra $1k for white.

As far as size, it is not a car that will feel "roomy" no matter how small you are.
But, Personally knowing owners ranging from over 6' tall to over 350 lbs there is little complaint among owners about fitment.

If you want to be as close to riding on 2 wheels as you can be in a car, it's the way to go... At least for a decent price.

The rear ends are kind of weak so be gentle on that, they dont like high rpm clutch drops but otherwise hold up well. Make sure you change all the fluids after you get it. The 2003 and earlier have the higher revving 2.0 liter, they redline at 9K. The 04 up use a 2.2 that reldines at 8K but gives a bit more bottom end. The AP1(99-03) is also a bit more of a track car with twitchier handling(funner), the AP2(04-09) is a more stable handling car with not as much fun at the limits. The 02 and up also have the glass rear windows, the older ones use plastic that can get cloudy and/or crack. I had an 03 and it was a blast to drive and easy to work on.

3 of them that i know personally in NJ. 700+ WHP stock internals.

700+

There is one more in the 700+ club, and 3 more at or around 500 WHP, but the threads are older and I didn't feel like digging them up.

seems like if its that easy there would be alot more of them...

nice none the less.

I never said it was easy... I said the stock motor will handle the power.

There are dozens running around 400-500 WHP on pump gas daily driven.

The turbo setup is a big chunk of change... no ebay manifolds here.

Race gas isn't exactly cheap, only a brave few want to cough up money to have their car tuned on fuel that costs over $10 a gallon.

If you want easy and cheap Greddy has turbo kits that put you around 300hp, but they aren't easily upgraded past that point.
