OFFICIAL PLAN:
We will be meeting at the Mobile HWY 76/I-15 split at 0445
This means 0445 ready to GAS UP and conduct last minute safety checks (tire pressure, brakes/lights and running gear check etc, and quick Chat)
Rolling on the On ramp 0500 SHARP, this will be the official start time.
We will take 15 min breaks every 150 miles to gas up and stretch, and bike check. This prevents us from guessing who needs fuel and sudden "Oh crap stops", and lets us stretch out. 3 breaks on our way there, 3, maybe 4 if needed on our way back.
SPEED will be with flow of traffic in ACCORDANCE with the law.
NO LEO ENCOUNTER rule is in effect. We will not be weaving in and out of traffic and will be keeping a constant speed as to not waste fuel, time and energy unnecessarily. Expect the pace to be constant. I have an RD.
DEPART 76/I-15 Mobile: 0500
Trip and gas stops: 8:45 hours
ARRIVE GG Bridge: 1400
Lunch and pics: 1 hour
DEPART GG to Petaluma TURN AROUND point: 1500
Trip and gas stops: 9:45 hours
ARRIVE 76/I-15 MOBIL: 0030
Total Target time: 19.5-20 Hours
Gives us ample time (4 hrs) for any unforseen stops or non emergency breaks.
We will save all receipts and take pictures of mileage, also get the receipts signed by the attendant with a good number....this is for the IBA...we want the 1K miles to count right, your butt will thank you. We will need to collect receipts at starting fueling point, GG Bridge, Turn around fueling point, and end point. I would suggest paying for gas with CC or Check cars since it has your name in your receipt. This will prove our mileage.
I have ICE tags and ICE programed on my UNBLOCKED phone....just prevention....I would suggest the same..
IF YOU HAVE A CHATTERBOX PLEASE BRING IT...
THE DAY BEFORE!!!!!
Check your bike completely. Do any maintenance, chain adjustments, check all fluids, breaks, hoses, fairing screws and lights. Basically go over all your bike and perform a complete check. GOOD tires with ample tread are a must! Not taking any chances. I will be taking a small took kit along with an air pump and small stuff. I would suggest you put together a tool kit for on the move with tools that you need to perform EMERGENCY repairs only...This is in the case someone gets stranded...and we CAN limp it back.
GET ENOUGH SLEEP! Nuff Said....
I would suggest bringin water or a camelback pack as to not have to be buying water everywhere. Also pack snacks in a tank bag. We will be eating ONCE. If you have saddlebags and a tank bag, I would bring those instead of a back pack so you don’t get tired of wearing it...after 12 hours it can get tiring.
Also pack some type of cold gear and rain cover. Im riding with a water resistant Cortech jacket which has both, and avoids me bringing unecesarry gear. Bring proper-best gear...I will be riding icon kevlar Jeans and protective cortech touring coveralls with under armor.
=DISCLAIMER=
IN THE EVENT of a MEDICAL emergency or any repairs that cannot be quickly fixed (and is not going to damage your bike, the trip will be called off. NO exceptions. I have AMA memebership which provides up to 100 miles travel free to any shop for repairs in the case of a break down, also pack AAA. This is preventive SINCE we wont break down and our bikes are in top shape...right!!! There could be a REMOTE chance that something happens and your bike gets stuck somewhere for repairs... Just a WARNING....I have a truck and am more than willing to trek it back to pick it up as my time allows after we place it somewhere safe as long as you work with me on gas. Every one needs to have current registration, insurance and license!
This will be an awesome ride.....and we shouldn’t have any issues, Everything is just preventive...1K miles is pretty far from home specially when you have to work the next day....any issues let me know BEFORE the weekend of please.
We can also adjust times to go earlier....which would be even better...
I know this is a lot of writing but you cant say it wasn’t mentioned....See ya soon!
