How did you learn to ride???

Yamy during the MSF course, then straight to my brand spanking new Busa from CalCoast Motorsports in Ventura CA.  Dropped it right there in the parking lot while I was taking deliver.  Dropped it 4 more times that same night at my buddy's house and in the back neighborhood of his house trying to get used to it.  My nephew dropped it on the throttle side by accident when he was sitting on it after 3 beers to get a "feel" for it.

Last drop was about 1 week laters on a incline right turn trying to get back on the 101 fwy South bound back to my buddy's place where I kept it for nearly 3 weeks.

That was back in April of 2004, nearly 20600 miles ago.... had MANY close calls (knock on wood) but no more mishaps since then.  Splitting lanes like the pyschotic bunny I have strapped on my backpack since then.  Saw a couple of CHPs while doing that, 1 on a bike, but they didn't chase me.  Luck Stars, thank you.

My son on the other hand:

He is 10 now....lookin' at a 85 or CRF 100.....

He is a better rider now than I was at 20!

It depends. When I was 15 I stayed with my aunt and uncle for a year. He raced Bultacos. He had a broken down bike in the garage he "gave" me to work on. It had a blown seal and not being mechanically inclined at all, I had no idea what that even meant.

The first bike I owned and learned to ride on was a 250 Yamaha I bought in 1976. My friend taught me how to ride on it. He had a Honda 350-4. I traded the Yamaha in on a Honda CB360T. Did a boat load of riding. D&D games including a GenCon South event. Riding to work. Riding to off post work. I even got married owning only the bike. We didn't get a car until I dropped it on the onramp to 695 in Baltimore.

When I was 3 years old my Dad used to ride me around on his lap on a Honda Trail 90.That was the hook. My first real bike of my own was a Honda CL90. $50 at a garage sale (those were the days). I have a 69 Minitrail 50 I want to restore or at least get running for my kids (3 and 7). They both dig the Hayabusa!

Would you be interested in teaching my x wife to ride?

First started riding on a friends Honda 50 when I was a youngster. 1977 saw my first street bike with a Honda 500. That's pretty much when I really learned to ride.

Lady Ice: The longer one rides the more chance of going down. I think those that have not are the exception to the rule.

I've flipped over a car once and hit asphalt about five times. Three of those times I had been drinking and was doing really stupid things. I don't drink and ride anymore!

My older sister had a boyfriend who had a Harley sportster. When I was around 12, I felt I could ride since I had watched some friends ride their wizzer(yes I'm old) . Every time he would come over and want to be alone with my sister, I would sit next to them and be a pain in the a$$ and ask him if I could ride his motorcycle. After several visits he finally came to realize he was not going to be able to spend any "quality" time with her and he told me if I could get it started I could ride it. Much to his surprise, he herd the bike fire up and he ran out of the house screaming at me as I traveled down the road in front of the house. I made it around the block and back to the house without crashing, but I did not know how to shut off the motor. He helped me shut it off and I was off to tell my friends I rode his bike. After that, everytime he came over to see my sister I would bug him to let me ride it untill he would say yes. Had my parents known it we would have both been in trouble!

see below!
I loved my gpz 550! It looked enough like the ninja 900 that I was hooked. It was my everyday rider in college!

My first bike was a Kawi LTD 700 Shaft drive cruiser, then a ZX-900 A-1 ( still miss her ) then a ZX-10 then a Harley and now a Busa and a Harley. No wrecks until I was 20 years into it on the Busa. Hopefully will go another 20+ years before repeating!

First time on a bike was on a friend's street Honda when I was about 9 or 10 years old. I have no idea what it was, probably a 50 or 90 cc or somethin'. I got on it and followed his instructions:

"Okay, kick start it."
"Okay, give it some gas."
"Okay, let go of the clutch."

BOOM! I was off the bike on the pavement and the bike was 20 feet away.

"I meant to let go of it SLOWLY!"

Fortunately, no major damage to the bike but my old man heard about it and forbade me to ever ride a bike again. That was all it took. Every chance I got after that for the next 7 or 8 years, I would beg my buddies to let me ride their dirt bikes. Got quite a bit of action and never put one down, thankfully.

When I was out of the house at 17, I didn't have any cash so borrowed grandpa's old Ford truck to get around. Did a stupid Moron stint for 2 years and when I got back at 21, I finally bought a CB400 as my first real street bike. Rode it for about 3 months when a hit and run driver tagged me and wiped me out financially. Rode the bus after that for a long time.

The rest, as they say, is history.
