As @Mythos knows , Gen 1 ZX14 and Gen 2 ZX14R look the same to most people , but the Gen 2 14R was actually a pretty thorough overhaul , the frame and swingarm received extra brace gusseting , the forks re tuned , the injectors were improved as was the cylinder head . I believe the airbox was modified a little to suit bigger cc etc. Externally , the headlights became 2 piece , and the body side panels received gill slits . Since 2012+ various available factory models came with updates include rear Ohlins TTX shock , and Brembo M50 100mm calipers / 310mm discs . The Gen 2 was said to handle better straight up comparison , it was designed to correct the Gen 1 that got close , but ultimately failed to successfully counter the Gen 2 Busa at that time .If it were very close to the 14R's horsepower right now, I'd think it could beat it with some tuning. I won't mind eating my words if the Gen3 busa does end up being the faster and more powerful bike but that looks doubtful. I don't know that most of us wouldn't know the difference anyway. Some people describe the improvement of the 14R over the Gen1 ZX-14 as being "subtle." There's a lot more to it than just horsepower.
