How long before busa chain change?

What they said above.

I've only ever gotten 11,000 miles out of my chains, no matter what kind I get or how I maintain it.

Trying a different approach with this latest one.  Will report in when the testing is done.

I wonder how much it helps to "clean and lube" a "sealed o-ring" chain..  I am certain that getting any lube inside the seals is pretty much impossible
It's not so much about getting lube in, but keeping the sand and grit out that attack the seals and make the chain fail.

Cleaning your chain removes the grime mixture of dirt and old lube that causes the sprockets to hook prematurely. Hooked sprockets will wear out a chain fast.

cleaned with the Ketten Max cleaner and kerosene a couple of times a season.

Thanks -Guys.

I've heard others say that. Not yet willing to try it as an experiment. My gut tells me that would only apply on non-sealed chains like you have on some of the REALLY old bikes and dirt bikes. Notably, those chains don't last long.

My feeling is that the lube on a sealed chain is for the rollers as they roll around the sprockets. I've also noticed that when I spray lube onto my chain, it tends to carry crud away from the chain giving it a quasi-cleaning or mere dust-off.

Just some thoughts.

Oh, something I've not seen on this thread yet is that the higher tensile strength of the chain might help. It won't prevent it from "stretching" but it might prevent it from breaking so easily.

I'm gonna get flamed here but,...
Chains don't stretch.

You can't stretch the side of a motorcycle chain link.
Just look at it. Imagine the force required.

The "Stretch" actually comes from the erosion of material between the links, at the joint.
Multiply the lose of material times 112 and that equals length.

Waiting for it.

my links did get longer... I put a "true flat" surface to my used chain and you can see where the rivets are pulled and the flat links are no longer flat.... (the flat links are physically longer by about .0015)

Hows that?

stock bike, 12K on chain, (.0015X112=.168" not .500)

but I do agree, chain length is more "wear" than "stretch" but the term "stretch" makes a lot more sense to most people (I can see a "longer" chain but I can not see a worn pin)..

I am sure that there are dozens of terms that are really technically incorrect but are used to keep things easier to understand..

I guess we could start a thread on them

oops!
multiplied .005 instead of .0015

.168 over the length of a stock chain isn't much.
Of course it's less than half of that when wrapped over top of itself and the sprockets.

Again if you go back and llok at the pic.
The Pin bushings and the pin itself take the wear.

If I replace the rear sprocket with a 42t count, will the 112 link chain still work or should I be looking a one a bit longer.

Whats everone using for chains?

17/42 works with 112 links. I found it a little busy on the highway at 120/140 klicks, good roll on though... Now have a 41 gonna try that. I'm using a EK zvx it's recommended for the busa, or you could use the EK zzz which is a little stronger.

I'am not sure but my chain adj's were almost all the way back and I just put a 42t on to bring it forward to get another season out of it.The stock sprocket looked perfect.it looks like there is no wear,we will see how long I get out of this.I hope I don't get

Don't do it

Do a search on chains breaking and see what kind of damage and expense a broken chain can cause. Be smart...it aint worth it. If you can pull your chain halfway or more off a tooth on the back of the back sprocket she's all done

yea that is about like draining the oil out of the engine to keep it from leaking while you ride it..

i have 7200 miles on my 07 and my chain has one adjustment notch left. I use the honda lube on my chains cause it isnt tacky. I think it makes them wear faster. I oil it every 2-3 rides.

I got 12k miles out of stocker and gave it to a friend who got another 5k out of it. I went to a DID and have 30k on it with a big bore, but I don't wheelie much or burnout.

A friend of mine broke the stocker at 6000 miles. I have a EK ZZZ no problems here 12K.

I had about 14K on my stocker. At about 8K I changed to a 43t Vortex rear sprocket and wow the acceleration was incredible. Can't keep the front down in first if you hit the throttle hard. Anyway I was installing the ZZZ I got through the group buy a couple nights ago and was having some issues with the links not lining up with the teeth in the sprocket so I started looking and noticed that I had lost the tips of about 5 teeth and the others were starting to bend over. That scared the heck outta me. So pay attention to those rear aluminum sprockets. I think next time I will be putting on a steel sprocket. Anyway I took a look at my old stock chain and noticed that there were missing o-rings and that little sign of rust in the links. I thought I had taken care of the darn thing but I guess not good enough so guys and gals pay attention to the chain and sprockets and treat them nice.
