How Long is To Long

I wasnt able to ride my busa for around 4 weeks. I took her out today she ran fine. I was just wondering how long does the fuel stay good. I dont want to get bad fuel flowing through the bike. I went about 40 miles today. Thanks it may be a dumb question I was just wondering though.

I forget...But evidently you didn't have any problems...You had a couple of options and you used one of them...You could have drained the tank...If I were storing it over the winter I would more than likely drain and oil the tank...Otherwise I would just keep the fuel low and take a short ride here and there...

Goes bad in about 1-2 months but you also have problems with water forming from condensation in the tank, particularly if you live where it is humid. So water is a bigger problem than the fuel going stale. In either case just but Stabil in the tank if it is going to sit for very long, or if it slipped your mind just drain the old stuff and put in fresh gas.

If I let my boat sit for more than 30 days I put in Stabil for the fuel or just drain it and put in some fresh fuel but, I use that fuel in my lawn mower usually. Just show where my priorities are, lol. I never let my bike sit still that long but, I know I have been told that after 30 days to replace it.

If i know it's goan site more then 2 weeks i fill it full and put stabil in it and run the bike for a couple miles at least so that way the stabil is in the system i do the same over the winter

You all are kidding right. Gas is a little bit more stable than that. The trick is to agitate (stir the tank) the bike every so often (few days to weeks). That supposedly keeps the molecules from separating (hence going bad). I have multiple bikes/ATV/lawn mowers/assorted small engines and rarely have any problems with "stale" gas. Some go without cranking for 4-6 months or more.

Stabil is a very good product for extremely long term storage (~ 6 months- a year).

Keep in mind that no amount of shaking will get water out of the gas. As stated before, water will condense in humid climates when there are temperature extreems. Which is very bad for tank, injectors, etc.

Just my $.02. Chris

Stale gas huh? Well, for those of you who have those extremely long winters... uhhh... just sell the bike and buy another one when springtime gets here.

Don't know about gas shelf life, but if you are prone to condensation in your area, then you need to keep the tank full. Condensation comes from moisture forming on a cool surface, if the tank is full you get no condensation, thus, no water in your fuel.

Hey Kevin I will take my winter shut down over your hurricanes any time. I only use fuel stabilizer if the unit will sit for more that two months. I have used a product called Sea Foam in all my gasoline powered toys for years. Never had a fuel related problem yet.
