Nice day, sunny, upper 60's. Decided to get away from the computer for a while. The Hayabusa CD is done, need a breath of fresh air. Suited up, did a quick pre-flight, wiped her down, rolled her out, and grabbed my nice new Arai Quantum/2 Raptor helmet. The iridium (sp?) shield had some dust on it. Grabbed my can of Plexis cleaner and sprayed a shot on the shield...it came out in a stream instead of a spray. Started wiping, and the rag just kind of dragged on the shield...Holy Crap, I just sprayed PJ O-Ring Chain Lube on my shield! Jesus those two cans are exactally the same size. That chain lube is a BITCH to get off!!! I can still smell it on the helmet.

I'll take a deep breath and slow down a little from now on.

Rubbing alcohol will remove oily stuff like chain lube from plastic like your visor quite nicely, without messing up the plastic.

As stated before on this site, just don't get in a big hurry like that and be careless when putting your bike on the sidestand.

McGuires Clear Plastic cleaner is great.
I dropped by the "beauty aid" section of my local RX and picked up a small (diameter of a Quarter) spray bottle, for Windex, and a small capped bottle for McGuires. I keep them in my tool area with a couple of dish towels!

I love the Plexis (Plexus?) for cleaning plastic. I have used paste wax, pledge, Maguires Mirror Glaze, and many other things on my shields and windscreens and this has to be far the best. This stuff is great on Airplane windshields too! Good for the black on your mirrors also.

BUDDHA: I can't say if Plexxus is the "best" but it sure cleans up nice, streak free, leaves a nice smooth and shiny finish on painted/clear coated parts. Removes alot of disturbing goo, bug juice, decal residue etc, but is not harsh enough to damage the painter surface etc,, Plus you can get it in this cute little pocket spray that you don't mind carrying around for when you get "bugged"! Once applied to your shield, if hasn't been too long, rain will bead off, but I still recommend good old wax on your face shield. When it rains, turn your head either way and watch the rain roll right off, looking down briefly helps it clean off real quick!

Rubbing alcohol? Wonder if that will damage the iridum finish on his shield.

I haven't seen the pocket version. I'd love to have that. I have considered spraying it into a small container, but this sounds better. What does the small bottle go for?

Funny thing is, using Plexxus myself, I am willing to bet a generous amount of Plexxus will get the lube off of the chain-lube soaked shield!

Is that Plexus stuff really as good as they build it up to be?
Does it really clean anything plastic?
Is it the best there is?
