How to keep you bike clean, And how to store it

There are 2 things i can see that are different from my bike, and the bike in some of the pics here. The plastic is not a problem to keep clean, but the rear sprocket, chain, and parts of the frame are very dirty. I clean them often but it always catches my eye as not being like new. I made the mistake of using brake clean to get rid of some of the excess grease/wax from the chain and it took the layer of paint off a part of the swingarm:(

As for storing it over the wintertime. Ive read in the manual that it says to change the oil and filter, but to top off the oil to the brim, to take out the spark plugs and pour a tablespoon of oil into each cylner, and rotate the engine a few times. Is this really nessescarry? I dont plan on storing it the entire winter, i might start it up and let it run for a few min each week, but how long can i let it sit before i should take any kind of special care to her? Im going to keep it in my basement, it might get cold down there though..

Thanks
Kris

Use WD40 for cleaning grease and stuff from the swingarm. As for letting it sit up, I'd say if you plan to let it sit for a couple months you might want to "winterize" it. At the very least you'll probably want to get a battery tender to keep the battery in good shape. I ride on and off all winter and don't really do anything special to mine. I try to get in a ride or two a month at least.

Ditto that. I put mine on a Battery Tender last year and had no problems.

I keep mine ready to ride. I can find at least 1 weekend a month where I can take her out get some excersize

Keep it ready to ride, cause you know if you winterize it there will be a few decent day's that you could take her out and stretch her legs.

+1

If it will sit for more than a month, I'd put some fuel stabilizer in the tank. Keeps everything clean...put the proper amount in, then run it for a bit to get it circulated thru.

I used to love the snow and the cold, now secen i have the bike i HATE it. I really want to move down south or out west

Mine never gets put away. Even if the weather dont let up I eventually have to go for a ride...granted I live in a pretty
mild climate compared to some of you.

I'm leaving for 6-9 months soon.....busa will sit in my garage, what do I do again? The oil thing with the plugs too?

If your storing the Busa for 6-9 months you may want to consider front and rear stands and a battery tender.

LOTUS: TRY ATLEAST A REAR WHEEL STAND, BATTERY TENDER OR STORE IN A WARM DRY PLACE W/ A CHARGER ON HAND, FUEL STABILIZER IS GREAT AS WELL, COVER HER W/ A BIKE COVER OR USE A SHEET, AND FIRE IT UP ATLEAST ONCE A MONTH. FOR THE BATTERY, I USUALLY KEEP THE SEAT BOLTS OUT SO I HAVE ACCESS WHEN I WANT TO RIDE THROUGHOUT THE WINTER. IF YOU DON'T HAVE A STAND, I RECOMMEND MOVING THE BIKE EVERY NO AND THAN TO AVOID FLAT SPOTS IN THE TIRES. AS FAR AS THE OIL, I USUALLY KEEP WHAT I HAVE IN THE BIKE AND CHANGE IT COME SPRING. I CHANGE THE FILTER AND OIL EVERY 2,000 MILES. HOPE THIS HELPS.

I put mine on styrafoam I get with my Omaha steaks...It keeps the tire off the cold concrete.Sta-bil in the tank and I take the battery inside.Other than that ,cover and check up on her once a month. The Harley NEVER gets winterized

Change the oil before you put it up and I heard you dont have to change it again when you bring her out.....That True?

Anything special to do before a 15 month deployment? I could prob get a friend to come over to crank her up every few weeks but noone rides her but me or should i just take the battery off and leave her on the stands. Will you loose a PC map if the battery goes dead for too long?
