As I have ridden around I notice guys with their helmet attached to the side of the tail section how do you do this? Useful for when I am not on the bike...Thanx

uhhhh errrrr..

open up the tail section.

On both left and right hand sides you will notice a black flat piece of metel that is bent kind of like a hook.

On the left side of the hump there should be a notch in the hump that allows the strap to go under the hump, that is about the location under the hump where the hook is.

Use the D ring on the helmet (just one ring) and latch it on to the hook.

replace hump / seat and latch into place.

their is one cut out on the hump because it is assumed if you are riding with the hump you have no passengers so no need to lock two helmets

If you are riding with the rear seat instead of the hump, then the rear seat allows for two helmets to be latched, left and right.

Yep, what Ron said...maybe he can run out and take a pic too

Hey wait, I've secured TWO helmets with the hump on Ron...I've hung mine off of one hook and the hubby's on the other...the hump fits right back on

Never tried it. I just know there is a notch on the left side of the hump for the helmet strap. And normally if you have the hump on their is not a need to secure two helmets.

Harley's have helmet locks dont they?

If Mike and I are out riding and there's that rare chance he's got his full face on, I'll strap it to my Busa when we stop; it won't fit in his bags...the straps are flat enough that you don't seem to need the cut out...hump still clicks down.

I'd just never really paid attention and I strap it on either side or strap two down and didn't give it any thought...

Wow, I can still learn new things!

There is a nitch in the hump for the strap.

Keep in mind though if someone wants your helmet all they have to do is cut your chin strap and it's theirs.

Yeah, but I've proven that you don't need the notch

I think about that every time I strap it down, then I realize they'd have a pretty useless helmet with no strap and hey, it's better than having 'em take your Busa

Most squids don't use the straps anyway.

And if they're wearing a helmet at all it's because of a helmet law for their particular state. I can't imagine how many times I've seen squids put their helmet on and not secure the straps. Jackasses!

You have to be careful of those little scratches on your tail from your helmet moving around, too.

If you bend the hook up alittle bit its easier to put it on and take it off . I wouldn't ride with it there though .

$400-600 helmet with one cut strap for a thief is a good score. They can have it repaired and "wallah" got myself a new Shoei/Arai/Suomy, etc.

While I am not overly concerned with getting my helmet strap cut.

And I have been riding motorcycles for over 22 years and I have allways "HEARD" that it can be done.

However I have never met / talked with anyone in person or online who it has actually happened to.

With that said.. I very seldom leave my helmet locked to my bike. I figure if there is one chance in a million of it happening it will hapen to me...

I was riding with a guy that this happened too. We went into the mall on a Saturday to have lunch and he locked his $400 helmet on his bike. We parked our bikes up by the door of the mall in a high foot traffic area. We were out about an hour later and the strap was cut and his helmet was gone.

I never leave my helmet or anything valuable on my bike. Disc locks are a good idea too.

Ohhhhhh THANKS!! I was going my whole life being able to say I never knew ANYONE this has happened too!!

You have brought bad karma upon me this day. I shall forever curse this day, I shall blot it from memory, it shall be as though the sun never rose and never set upon this day.

it shall be stricken from history!!

Yes, it is possible to lock 2 helmets with the hump. I've actually gotten a helmet and a jacket on each hook, with the hump on.

Carry your helmet chicks dig it.

I ride with a spare helmet all the time with no problems.

To avoid somone cutting you helmet strap or walking off with you tank bag or jacket I would recommend going to Lowes or Home Depot, purchase a wire braided line cut to lenght,  a wire loop kit to make the ends of the wire loop together and a cut to length clear tubing to protect your bike from scratches. Once you assembled all three items you shoud end up with somthing like this to secure your helmet and hot azz jacket to your bike with little worries.

You can run the wire through you jacket arm continueing through the helmet visor open if you have enough length.

Here are few example photos of my setup. Also you can secure the wire anywhere you see fit on the bike  (swingarm).
