I assume you're all in favor of tariffs?

As a patriotic Canadian, I hope your gas prices and energy prices go through the roof.
Good to see you're paying a lot for eggs.

LOL

cheers
Ken
I really wonder how our glorious Canadian government will react to these tariffs placed on us by our supposed neighbor, ally and trading partner.....

Trump certainly is showing himself to be quite a tool bag.......

It will be interesting to see how many American businesses will tank or suffer due to these tariffs.....we already know Canadians will suffer, that's a given but Trump thinks these tariffs will somehow help the US....

I saw an interview with corporation CEOs of industries in New York and Michigan and they are really worried about these tariffs as they rely on Canadian goods to operate because America can't supply enough of what they need and they said they aren't alone in this, many other corporations and industries are in the same boat.....

Trump has far too large of an ego to ever admit he was wrong and none of his lap dogs would ever approach him to question his decisions...

Hopefully there is an opportunity for these people to sit down and discuss the way forward with tariffs and how we mitigate them....

Right now our own government is in turmoil so is in no position to really deal with them......and I think Trump knows this and this is why he chose to impose tariffs on us at this particular time.

It's really simple, Canada doesn't pay for it and Canada shouldn't do much of anything really. Unless there is another cheaper source to import from or industries are stood up internally it's the American people that will pay for it. I also wonder what the US government does with all those extra taxes collected. Bigger tax cuts for Elon and such...

Tarriff's can be good tool if used wisely but I don't have much hope that they will be used wisely in this instance.

I think it's more the principle of having them imposed that has caused the most anger as we are supposed to neighbors and allies.....

It's like taking something home in your pickup truck for your friend and then handing them a bill for doing so.....

Trump is in Musk's pocket for a large sum that Musk used to support him in 2024...I read something like $300 million......

How so? What am I missing?

Exactly, but I don't think we will stop importing anything, we will just pay more for everything it will fund tax cuts for the rich.

Much of our economy is based on trade with the US.....

Our auto industry relies on cross border trade as we are building American vehicles.

We import most of our produce and fruits from the US.....which will hurt our grocery stores as well as our industry that uses these products.

We also export a lot of steel, aluminum, nickel, copper, Lithium and other metals to the US.....

We do export a lot of oil and LNG to the US as well and it is tariffed at 10% which is less but will still cost us.

How does exporting oil to the US at a 10% tariff cost Canada? I suspect the US importers will try to negotiate lower prices to try and offset the tariff tax the US importer has to pay?
I guess time will tell, I hope it doesn't hurt you guys up north but unless there is another cheaper source to import from or Canada starts imposing tariff's as well the US government is just raising taxes on its own people for the most part.

Selling oil and other petroleum products with a 10% tariff would make the American companies buy less therefore costing jobs in the sector.....and create a glut in product which costs money to store....if we produce less petroleum products that affects a large number of supporting industries.

On the other hand, as we supply a lot of the oil the US needs it might not affect us as much but will affect the US customers by driving the price per gallon up.....

That's what I'm talking about, I don't see the demand changing or a cheaper source coming into the picture just higher prices in the US is all I see coming. Maybe a lot of those "I did that" stickers with Trump's face on them in a very sarcastic manner.

Demand will dictate supply. The raised cost will affect the demand, but people will get tired of not driving and bite the bullet. Bottom line is Trump lines the pockets of the rich with the increased revenue coming from all of us.

In time, Canada will seek other sources to send our product to.....we are working on a trans-Canada pipeline that will enable us to send our product to a global market....once that's complete, our oil and gas prices will go up substantially I'm thinking.....

Even the Wall Street Journal isn't a fan of this trade war....

WSJ lashes out: Trump’s trade war called 'stupidest in history'

The immediate effect is bad, but I hope this doesn't undo the alliance and friendship these two neighbors have had, at least pre and post Trump. Remember, only half of us voted for him and hopefully we can all outlast this together. I'm afraid it's going to take a bit to repair all this, and it hasn't even been a month yet.

I just read that the American national anthem was booed at the Toronto Raptor game today too....

Canadians are pissed off......

And many Americans too.......

I sure as heck don't blame them. What the heck goes through that man's head, I can't wrap my mind around. The astonishing thing is apparently intelligent people like TallTom and Jellyrug support him, to an extent, as well.
