i saw a new 14 today

Function over bling! I left the bling behind years ago.

With a little software upgrade you can spank most any 14 with relative ease! :beerchug:

Please tell this to my buddy, he has a 08 busa with yoshimira full sytem and a pc5 and he is not coming close to spanking my new 14r

im sure the new 14 will be quicker with the new changes but like said before i dont think it will be that big of a difference.. time will tell
I've ridden the new zx14R stock and a stock gen2 and my modded 03 busa. The difference is big, quite big. It made my 03 feel pretty weak, and it made the gen2 feel soft as well. Its a very quick bike. But that doesn't mean that our busa's are suddenly no fun anymore. The busa is still a very quick machine as well, and a lot of fun to ride, which is what matters most to me. I don't see a reason to upgrade to the 14 unless you need the ego boost or are a drag racer
I guess it just depends on how much speed you need to keep you happy on a bike.

To the guys that said "with a few mods the busa will be equal to the 14". What mods are u guys referring to?

Turbo! those new 14r are nice! But i'm sure Suzuki will do something with the Hayabusa soon to answer for the 14r. Of course they really haven't sunk a whole lot of money into there motorcycle line. Most of suzuki motorcycles haven't changed much from 2008.

I rode a new 14R, it was definately a butt-load faster than my 04 busa with all the mods, but I also ride a boosted 06 14, so I'm used to quite abit more acceleration than even the new 14. For a stock bike its pretty darn fast tho.....but still too slow for me

I have a full yoshi, PC5, tune 09 busa, and there is no way those mods will make the up the 100cc gain the 14 has.

I tip my hat to kawi for building a BETTER BIKE, because the new 14 is a BETTER BIKE, coming from a gen 2 owner.

Still does not change how ugly it is.

All we can hope is for Suzuki to answer with a better Gen 3.

In the mean time, either get a 1441 kit for your gen 2, or nos/turbo to beat the new 14

A bolt-on stage 1 kit on a first gen busa I think is about 240 to the rear tire, that would run away from a modded 14R and then some. I'm not sure what kits are offered with the gen2 and TI valves, and what other work is needed tho, but they would be even stronger. I do know my boosted 06 14 at 8lbs of boost and about 270rwhp completely destroys a stock 14R in a huge way, but thats to be expected. You can make a busa spank the new 14 no prob, just depends upon how much you want to spend. But in the rare case they mod like you, then they're ahead again
When guys start bolting stage 1 kits on stock 14R motors they are going to be completely insane, let alone high boost built motors ::11

When the price drops on these things, I may buy one. Never liked the look, and still don't now, but they look pretty decent stretched and lowered. It would be my street cruiser slash drag buddy.

A buddy of mine just bought a 2012 ZX14 and it is a nice bike. Suzuki needs to step up its game. I like the traction control on the bike which allows you to put the power to the ground without wheeling or spinning out. From my knowledge Suzuki doesn't even have this tech on any bike.

To be fair. The newer Busa's do have the selectable modes that reduce power to the wheels in order to prevent things like spinning out.

I don't use it however. People put too much emphasis on the importance of traction control.

Just with cars, T/C can often be a hindrance or at the very least an annoyance.

I'm going to have to differ on this. Yes, Suzuki has power modes, but so does Kawasaki. The difference is that on my Busa, I could drop it into B or C power mode and it would take away power no matter what was going on with the bike. Even if you had solid traction, it would still slow you down. The power modes MIGHT help you keep from losing traction in the first place, but will do nothing for you once you start to spin.

With my 14R I can set the traction control so that I can hold the throttle wide open coming out of a corner and get just the right amount of wheel spin and front wheel lift to keep the bike under control without sacrificing any usable power. The traction control has three different modes, or it can be turned off. It does not feel intrusive like on so many cars. You really don't even notice it's working unless you're specifically looking for it. I see no reason to ever turn it off, whereas I never left 'A' mode on the Busa because it would cause a noticeable reduction in performance. As far as the power modes are concerned on the 14R, I'll never use them either. They just seem pointless.

Anyway, that's my opinion. :beerchug:

i still think the 14r is ugly even if its faster. if the factory is adding mods that usually get added by an engine builder, such as ported head, +4 crank. then their is less for the end user to to do to get more out of the motor without using a power adder or doing a purpose built motor. I wonder how even the bikes would be if the busa came with a +4 crank and a factory hand ported head...

I wonder if suzuki is just going to match the 14R or spend the money and R&D to jump it by 20+hp? Be cheaper to just build a similair size motor out of the current busa if possible and match the 14, with some electronics thrown in. If the busa keeps selling well they may do nothing  They didn't do much to the new gixxer 1000...maybe same for a new busa?

I went and checked one out the other day. I pesonally think Kawi did a good job on this one. Many upgrades. It looks better imo, and its lighter then the busa, and lighter then last years 14. Also has a new type of clutch system in it, and an all new 1440cc motor. I honestly think I might purchase one. I'll keep my Busa of course, but I honestly am impressed with the 12 14's.

We went out today to a desolate road and ran some drag races and roll ons. My one friend has an '08 Busa like mine (stretched, lowered, and pipe) and my other friend has a stock 2012 ZX14R (lowered, with a pipe). Each race, whether it was from a roll-on at 40mph or standing start, the Busa would get the jump (only because the 14 wanted to wheelie bad), but then once the 14 would get going, it would catch and pass the Busa every time. I had to see it to believe it, cause I couldn't get myself to believe Rickey and his what I thought were staged commercials of the ZX14 vs Busa. The 14 is faster period. No if ands or buts about it. Suzuki, we are waiting!

PS: Will load some vids on youtube later.

The 14R also feels a little cheaper. The side fairings seem brittle where as the busa is a solid machine.

The moral of the story is; Imagine what the GenIII Busa will be.

Yep, you are right about that. The fairing is real thin with a lot of open spaces at the bottom by the headers and ect. At the bottom by the front wheel, there is just one push-pin holding both sides together. This probably saves some weight though. Real nice bike IMO.
