I think I bought a Hayabusa

Good to hear she seems to be doing well for ya. If I was closer, I'd be there with you for the learning experience. Ride careful and have fun. Any plans for going to the fall bash?

Sounds fishy to me. I would cancel and look for another.
Try private owners, less problems most of the time when buying.
Try Craigslist.org for listings in your area.

Yes, I'm bringing up this old thread to anyone (or no one) for an update on the bike many people had bad feelings about me buying almost a year ago to the day.

The bike had many things wrong with it at the dealership. I admit I had the "have to have it" attitude since my ex-wife and I split up a month beforehand. She always told me I could never have a Busa. I guess I was "showing her" I could. Anyways, back to the bike... I started making a list of all the things I replaced or added to the bike, along with the prices I paid.

She runs absolutely fantastic! I learned SO much in the last year about working on bikes than I had in the previous 14 years riding. I looked at the odometer a few days ago and think I passed 9,000 miles. I have had a few long trips on the bike with my dad that rides a Triumph. It's fun that we both get looks and people wanting to chat us up at gas stations.

I truly understand now why many of you were critical of my decision to buy a jacked up bike and to take a risk at buying a lemon. At the time I made this thread, I was pretty upset at some of the replies that I read. It would have been easier on the pocket and mind to have bought a bike that was clean and not busted up. Thank you all for looking out for me when I wasn't right in the head.

have to agree with what everybody else said, but dont walk away run as fast as you can. thats not the only busa ever made

Aside from the headaches from the rusty tank, it appears as most of the money went to upgrades and not repairs. You probably saved a ton of cash doing most of the work yourself.

This thread is about a year old. I have had the bike for that long. I was giving an update to all those that read it when it was new. Hehe, I can't run away from it at this point! I have it paid off already and it's running quite well!

well mr doo you just down the road from alot of us here...take a look at my hayas in the hills thread in north east gatherings...we will be getting together soon. hope you can make it

Wow, it's only about 80 miles from my buddy near Youngstown. Would you guys allow a GSXR 600 join the group along with me?

So, I set out to get a Busa last Saturday. Went to a dealership just outside of Akron, OH. I'm in Cleveland, so it's a little drive, not too far. I found an '05 with 3,400 miles on it for $6,200. It has some cosmetic damage, but nothing that I wasn't going to change anyway.

Get there when they open at 10 am. Go in, tell the sales guy I was going to buy it... I had a check from my bank in hand. "Great" he says. We sit down and do the paperwork.

Right away, a service guy pushes it outside and near the service bay to get checked over, new oil, battery, check coolant, fill the gas tank, etc. Sales rep says, "it's going to be a few hours, as there are a few bikes infront of yours to be serviced" No problem. My buddy and I go to Best Buy, walk around Walmart, get some lunch. At about 1pm, the sales guy calls me and says, "there isn't a key for the gas tank, so the locksmith will be here to make keys in about an hour". Are you kidding me? This dealership took a trade in on this bike before knowing there wasn't a key for the tank? C'mon, really?

2pm, in comes the lock-smith. 10 minutes later, the tank is open. 30 minutes later, the keys are made. Lock-smith leaves. At 3:30 pm, a tech goes over to the bike and looks in the tank. He scurries back inside the service bay and brings out the service manager. They look inside the tank together with a flashlight. They wave my buddy and I over and show us the tank has rust all inside. "you can't take the bike today." I understand not taking the bike with rust in the tank, BUT, they should have let me know that a long time ago... like, when the lock-smith left. They said they would start on it Monday, and it should be done Tuesday.

I called this morning at 11am to check the status. I talked to the service manager, and he said they were finishing it up this morning, but didn't say if it would be ready for pick-up this afternoon. He asked who the sales rep I was working with, and said he would have the sales rep call me. On my way to lunch today at 12:30, no call yet, so I called the cell phone of the sales rep. He doesn't pick up, so I leave a message.

It's now 2pm, and no call.

What should I do?

Drew

Walk away with your $ and buy a newer, better condition busa on craigslist cheaper

Way to go! You saved some poor hayabusa from rotting away:thumbsup:

It's hard to hear what your set on is not the right thing for you, live and learn I suppose. Glad you turned this around into a positive experience and now you have the bike you wanted!

cancel the deal man sounds kinda fishy to me. 6200 is pretty pricey only way I would take that bike is if they took my low ball offer of 3000, because with the damage it sounds like it is hiding and the screwing around they are doing to you there is absolutley no way I would pay even 1/2 what they are asking.
In a word RUN!!!!!

I really need to start looking at the dates on these threads before posting :poke:

Again, That is awsome Mr. Droo. Happy to see she has been running well for you and to top it off, you gained experience working on it yourself. Hope she gives you many more trouble free miles. There's nothing like being out riding with family and friends. Me and my brother ride as much together as we can.:thumbsup:

Cracks me up how many people are still telling him to run away from the deal because they don't check dates or read threads all the way through.....
Glad you realize what the .org was trying to do for ya, and glad it worked out well.

Great to hear the bike is working out well for you.
That is a good looking bike, I can see why it was hard to walk away from.:beerchug:
