I was bored and since I hadn't seen a head to head comparison of the Ducati 1098 and the 07 GSXR1000 I went searching and came across this one on bikeland. Pretty interesting that they are comparing the 1098 to the zx14! From what I have read that 1098 is a monster never would have thought of this comparo though.

Interesting, but in Sports Rider in a comparo between the GSXR, ZX10, R1, CBR1000R and the 1098, the Duc came in last in nearly ALL areas tested. Mind you, alot were just personal, but in the performance areas, the Duc only really beat the R1 with the GSXR taking the Title Again this year by a BIGGGGGGGGGG MARGIN.! The Duc will come along, but still needs developement. And I really have trouble believing it beat a ZX14 in the Quarter Mile unless the 14 rider was as Bad a Drag Racer as I am. And with someone like the Professor on the Duc. And that my Lads, is a statement from a True Ducatista

Funny right after I posted this that I got my new Sport Rider in the mail. Sounds like the base model 1098 gets drubbed pretty well by the stock GSXR. Now for a 1098S with the Termi's and chip versus a GSXR1000 with a pipe and PC and maybe a sprocket change???

...and the Ohlins suspension + electric shifter + full slipper clutch + mono block Brembo brakes. Dial it in then point and shoot.

I don't find that hard to believe as a stock 14 is a freaking dog off the line...funny but true and 1st hand story...i had a local riding bud here who owned a sweet ZX9R..then he bought a ZX14 and let his wife upgrade by selling her Ninja250 and taking over her hubbys ZX9R as HER new ride...and for the first few months while his 14 was still stock?..she made a habit of spanking his azz from just about every stoplight!
laugh.gif

He's since gone with a Boz Bros exhaust and PC for his new 14 and he's do'in better but...his wife still owns his azz for the first 100' !
laugh.gif

of course...up top?..he slaughters her and barely edges me out (and only at unspeakable speeds) but still...undr 100?..modded or not?...the 14's a pig....a pig that can gets it's azz handed to it by a Duc!

It must be the rider ...I ran 9.18 @ 154 stock wheel base with the flys in place...1.50 60 footers on a so called dog zx14 ...No duck is going to run that... So if a duck is beating a zx14 it must be Killing a Busa in the 1/4 mile ....

Ducs are a sweet bike love the looks and better power on the newer ones and not a bad price . Down side is the maintenance costs . 800.00 a year in maintenance costs and if you do it yourself you voidthe warranty . Almost traded for one till i talked to a dealer ...

If you take it to the dealer it will most assuredly be spendy to maintain. But it is illegal for them to void your warranty if you work on it. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty act was created (in part) for just this reason. From what I have read recently Ducati is actually trying to extend maintenance intervals and decrease maintenance costs to try and lure more mainstream people to Ducati Dealerships. This has typically been seen as more of a detriment to sales then the actual purchase price of the bike itself. Good on them, cause I do love the sound of that 1098 with the Termi's!

wow...sho does hit that 173mph rev limiter pretty quick...twins is all about "TORQUE"...and lots of it..across the board TORQUE from the bottom all the way to 1/2 way into the top...and it looks like ducati finally got that last 1/2 ofd the top dialed in...cause that duc appeared to have no problems whatsoever spinning that drum too 173mph and bouncing off the rev limiter...and did so in short order.

I'd be rider against rider as to who got too turn #1 first against just about any bike out there except those specifically set-up for "drag".

However..imho?..Ducati is downgrading all the good stuff with the 1098 in an attempt to hit a more competitive price point..no ohlins, no brembo's...etc..etc..down to the point that what you wind up with is a jap grade twin at an elevated euro price with a few extra points for italian styling.

Ducs definantly closing the gap between them and jap but if i wanted a big bore twin sportbike for my hard earned?..I'd still stay far far away from any duc dealerships for three good reasons...

1. The Lack Of Parts Availability & Highly Elevated Costs

2. Poor Azz Customer Support

and?...

3. I wouldn't be to fond of paying $15K for a duc that with $3k worth of mods that can still get it's azz handed to it from a $10K Gixxer!

Gotta disagree with ya there Jinks. Even the base model 1098 has the full blown Brembo Monobloc's, 330mm rotors and Marchesini rims. That alone explains the~3K$ cost difference between a Japanese 1000 and the base model. And the Showa Fork and Shock are at least the equivalent of the competitions offerings. Sort of like the Triumph 675 did in the 600 class it is now a truly viable alternative to the normal combatants in this class. IMHO anyways.

I've seen a little buell running around town. Pulled him for showing me belts all around the center of the rear tire. He said it was a torque monster. Told him to replace the rear tire before he put his eye out

new ducs have a much better maintence schedule..

no maintenace over 400$ from what I saw.. go check it at ducati north america... you'll be suprised assuming they aren't hiding a bunch of other stuff.. but with the ad campaign they have gonig with it.. i don't think so.. I think they just did their homework on how to make it work.

much improved and a big step in the right direction in getting me back on a ducati.

If you have to justify owning a Duc because of $$$ Price, and then justifying up graded mods (like no one on THIS board ever up grades and puts lots of $$$$ in their Busa) as a reason to not buy. Then I agree with you
wow.gif
! Kinda like trying to compare a Vette with a Ferrari. The new 550HP Vette (let alone the new Shelby Mustang Cobra) will had the Ferrari it's tail and cost about 1/4 or less !

If you have to justify a Duc over a Jap bike, well
wink.gif
just buy the Jap bike. You'll be alot happier

"OH" yea, I've never spent anything like $800 for maintance. Yeah, I do most of my own maintance and the only parts issues have been with my 888, but none of 916 or 998 series bikes. Maybe some have, but not me

What does it matter, a GSXR 1000 will hand any liter bike it's ass. There is more to a sportbike than acceleration. And on that note, it will also hand a busa and ZX14 it's ass with average skilled riders. I like the Ducati for what it is. I believe it's much harder for a twin to reliably make similar power as an inline 4. Has anyone ridden a 1000cc twin? They are an absolute blast to ride. I may never own a Ducati, but it's ok to dream.
