Iraqi Abuse - Changed my mind

I've been in 10 LONG active duty years I'm still in and will be till I retire , yes whats going on over there is needed and I do not want us to leave until the job is done.Thats my opinion on that now as far as the terrible things that are happening to our guys over there I will be the first to tell you that I think its F'ED up that for every CIVILIAN that gets tortured or killed captued etc the media is blowin it up, but there 100's of troops dying in worse ways CONSTANTLY and its not heard of at all. Now I understand that us active guys are volunteers and all but we are Americans too.I mean what you guys see in the news is not even 1% of the events going on there right now, its miserable and are guys are taking heavy casualties in unspoken ways . I cant wait till its all over and all our brothers, sisters, sons and daughters come home.

This entire war is getting so complicated and sad, it's hard to decide where I believe we should be by now or where we're really heading...

The thing we're missing here is that terrorists do these types of acts to get the response their now getting...we were all so incredibly hurt by 9/11, but think back over how equally disturbing a single act of murder is on us (Daniel Pearl, the March 30 murders of our contractors, those first few missing during the war, pics of dead soldiers on our televisions)...it assaults our senses, it angers us beyond reproach, and it's conjuring up exactly what the terrorists thrive on...

Question for everyone...try to set aside your opinions on the war, on whether or not we should even be in Iraq and Afghanistan...do you think for one minute that if we pull out, release their prisoners and let them be that this type of act will go away?  They hate us...they want to show that in any and every way possible...we could pull out of the middle east today and the first time a terrorist has a chance to strike, another American will die...

Terrorists aren't just sitting in tents and caves in Iraq...they're in every country, just waiting to continue to prove their pointless existence...blowing up Iraq won't fix the problem...the biggest problem with an enemy like this is that they'd actually prefer to shock us by decapitating a single person over bragging about the convoy of soldiers they just took out...civilian casualties over our military is what they live for...a single shocking video tops their list of "see, look what we did" over all else...

Being pissed about what we see going on is what makes us different from them...holding fast to treating people humanely sets us eons ahead of what they could ever understand...we need to maintain that difference, or we're no better...

Just something to think about guys...if we stay, our own will continue to be mutiliated and murdered, and if we leave, we'll be watching these same acts on our own soil again...they hate us...what they did was purely for the effect it's caused...I feel so incredibly sad for his family and all families of military overseas right now...this battle is so complicated, I wish I knew a way out...

As far as your comment that you made and you referred to yourself as a "Smart Remark"

**Not me just the statement, I felt it was "Smart A$$"...

And I am not insinuating your comment or comments were directed at me I assume it was just a general statement

**Just general...

Nice comment, however I have already served 10 years as an active duty United States Marine and since my honorable separation I now serve our government by working for the United States Department of Defense as a civilian. My job now consists of supporting our troops behind the lines.

**Only did 4 yrs USMC...Same type seperation...Public Servant forever it seems...

My comments I made were not meant to support indiscriminately killing any and all Iraqi's. Just the ones that choose to oppose us with force. Hence my comment, if they have a stone in their hand and they are deciding if they should throw it at us or not, then I say we cap them in the head and just end it right there.

**Meet force with force...Does a stone weilding person deserve to be shot???I know that's really not what you mean...

If we don't get a handle on this right now it is only going to get worse, and real quick.

**I don't believe we will ever get a handle on this situation...

And I just re-read my starting post, and if you read it carefully, I pretty much described enemy combatants, not the general Iraqi population.

**I'll agree with that...

And as such I stick to what I said. If someone threatens a United States soldier or any coalition member, that person needs to be taken out now.

**I would return to meet force with force...You seem to imply that anyone that show aggression against our forces should die...

And as far as your reference to the murders that take place in our country? lets just say I totally believe in capital punishment and I don't think it is used enough. our prison system is way to soft and I have friends who a re police officers and it is not uncommon to hear about someone getting out of prison who ahs been in for 10, 15 years or more, and within 1 hour of being released they commit a crime, just for the purpose of going back to prison.

**I don't disagree with capitol punishment...But, it has been proven by more modern testing that some of the wrong people has died for cirmes that they did not commit...I would hate to have been one of those innocent victims...I agree that our penal system should return to what it used to be hard labor...I know some criminals that get out, get in trouble so they can get locked back up so they can be with their friends...I agree that a hardened criminal will be no more than a hardened criminal and yeah that's what they do commit more crimes...

My police officer friends have had people flat out tell them, the reason why the committed a crime was because they did not know how to live on their own, they wanted to go back to prison.

**Responded above...

What is wrong with THAT picture?

**Because our society wants to reform the unreformable...

Anyway, I didn’t get on this rant until I heard about the American civilian being beheaded. They didn’t do it because of the "abuse" we were doing to Iraqi prisoners, how do you justify cutting someone's head off.

**This can't be the first time you've ever heard of someone being beheaded...It's just the timing that angers everyone...

As someone else stated, at the most we did would be considered hazing.

**Far beyond hazing...I pledged while in college and they never made me do any of those things...

At least we did not torture them, light their bodies on fire and drag them through the streets cheering and chanting as they have done to us.

**But we have tortured them...Those guards just did it in a different way...No they didn't display their actions and more than likely never thought they would be discovered...Who's cheering and chanting now???

I don’t want to see any innocent Iraqi's hurt. But I want our people to stop being tortured and killed because we are over their trying to help them.

**I think they make it clear they don't want our help...

Crap, we want to hand everything over to them and get out, if they would stop fighting and attacking us and make it look like everything was good, we would hand everything over to the Iraqi people and we would get the heck out, then they could start their crap up after we were gone.

**That's exactly what's gonna happen...Eventually we'll leave they have what they wanted all along and we'll be licking our wounds thinking what the hell were we over there for anyway...

Why aren’t they doing that? All this stuff is doing is prolonging us being there.

**Why aren't we leaving would be my question...

It is because right now Iraq is an ideal terrorist training country. It is easier to go to Iraq and practice different terrorist techniques that can be used in other parts of the world.

**What about all the terrorist training camps in America...

I would bet most of these kidnappers and fighters are not even Iraqi's, and of the ones that are, they were probably recruited by foreigners and persuaded to fight.

**Yeah and some of them may even be American...

Ok, enough rant. I am about to say awwwwe forget it and just delete this and move on.. but I will post it for the heck of it..

**You ain't ranting just speaking your mind...And that is cool...

Free speech rules!!!!!!!!!!!!

**Yes it does but does not stand against money...

Keep expressing your views Stunnah. That is what makes our country awesome

**You do the same...Peace...

Question what the heck are civilians doing in Iraq anyway?
They're over there making more money...That's what it's all about...Oil and money...
