Is it adrenalin - or something else?

O

outtahand

We've all heard the term "adrenalin junky". But is it really adrenalin that makes some people seek thrills, such as dragging a knee in a canyon?
If not adrenalin, what then?

For myself, I know it is absolutely NOT adrenalin (ask me how I know).
But what the heck is it?

Ok, how do you know? I know it is not really adrenaline for me. I used to skydive because I always wanted to try it. I am not thrill seeker, but love to try new things. Riding my bike and reaching new limits in incrmental steps is fun and exciting, not because I want to push my machine to the limit. I like the feeling of freedom and becoming part of my bike, not just rider on it. Hard to explain.

I have read that "adrenaline" isn't what's up at all. Adrenalin is a short term "fight or flight" response that might happen in drag racing but not in road racing, track day stuff, or twisties.
For me, it's more on the line of a martial art, the constant, never ending, perfecting of a craft. Adrenaline happens when a deer runs across in front of me, not when I'm trying to cut a perfect line in a set of corners.

For me its trying to escape lifes everyday stress. When I am on the bike trying to cut that perfect line on some curvy road. I forget all about my problems. And concentrate on whats in front of me and around the corner. Not to mention braggin rights. When I go out with the guys in my neighborhood.(they all ride cruisers) They know eventually I will get tired of being law abiding and fly by them on the way home. I didn't do it one day and they asked me what was wrong when we got home.

Good thread.... Hmmm ......... Thrill Seeker does fit.........If done with a careful learning curve as to Master a bike... then when ridden to the max i experiance the feeling of my heart in my throat, with mild panic does indeed equal adrenalin abeit metered out in a proggressive way... not all at once as in a panic situation...equals a REALLY FUN MOMENT in time. A great high.. that's kinda legal hehe
