Is it possible?

John, everyone has given you great advice, I would add 4 things that helped me immensely...1)800-1000 mgs of Ibprophen when you start and 400-500mgs every 4-6 hrs thereafter 2)good earbuds with good music(helps keep my mind active) 3)stop n stretch every gas stop(mid day shower @ truck stop is major rejuvenation too!). 4)don't overeat. I've done 950-1000 miles 4 times...all on a Kaw KLR 650...Busa has to be better. Enjoy it and don't listen to naysayers! Raydog edit...I forgot...keep hydrated!

(JINKSTER @ Jul. 29 2007,10:23) is it possible?....absolutely....is it recomended?...absolutely not.

There's folks who make a hobby out of "Iron Butting"..they even hand out medals for it...some silly shid like 1,000 miles (they call a "Bun Burner"), 1,500 miles for a "SaddleSore"...etc..etc...to be accomplished in a certain amount of time "with reciept proof" of where you been, were and at what times.

I loath the "Iron Butt Association" as imho?...they encourage folks to push themselves beyond reasonable rider fatigue limitations...and rider fatigue sets in....the mind becomes not as sharp...motorskills, reflexes and reaction time all slow down....awareness levels decrease...and the mind begins to wander instead of maintaining concentration on the road ahead...including surrounding vehicles and your level of alertness regarding the many potential road hazards which you will encounter such as blown off re-treads and potholes...and all on roads you may be vaguely familiar with at best.

These are exercises best left to those looking to prove to themselves that they have a chest to pin those medals on...as the experienced savy rider will understand that nobody else will really care, take notice or even begin to understand the level of discipline it took to complete something that imho?...considering the risks involved?..is really just a stupid thing to do.

The first 400-500 miles will be a breeze....after that?...it becomes a challenge to see how far you can push yourself...600-800 will seem like "Positional Torture"....and you'll spend the last 100-200 miles wondering how you could've been so bull-headed to put yourself through it...just ta tell a handful of people "i told you so"?

and if you're like me?....afterwards?...you won't wanna so much as look at a motorcycle...for about 2 weeks to a month.

Definately doable. I've done it twice. Mount Pelier (sp) Idaho to San Diego, took about about 18 hours because we stopped in Las Vegas on the way back) and Durango Colorado to San Luis Obispo Ca. (that one took about 14 hours. Al lI did was ride and gas up and averaged somewhere around 72 to 74 MPH.) wasen't really that hard. You just have to keep going with no long stops. Iron but guys do it all the time.

Eh. Some people can do it, others can't. The most important thing in any new venture is to know your limits and test them gradually.

For me to take a long trip is literally NOTHING. I have very few friends who can ride as long as I can in a day so they just don't and that's okay. If I leave my house at 6:00am, by noon, I'm really just getting started.

IBA is not for everyone (I haven't done one of their rides YET), just like rock climbing isn't for everyone. Ya gotta do whatcha gotta do!

If you ride along side Wag you'll get barnacles on your butt...He can put in some long rides and damn he's fast in the twisties... Ask him about the Ducati 1098 he was flying with...

Great riding with you and the wiff...but I need a busa to keep up with both of you, lol

I've done it several times but yes, you will be tired afterwards. A little achey the next morning but after a few minutes back in the saddle you'll be good. Take breaks and hydrate yourself.
