I have close to 1,000 miles on my 00 Busa now. Ever since new, I notice a peculiar thing about my clutch. In 1st gear, starting from a standstill, the clutch is smooth and linear. No grabbyness whatsoever. But when I shift to 2nd and release the clutch(hesitating at the engagement point while trying to match the revs), I notice that there seems to be TWO engagement points. This is also noticeable in 3rd gear but not in 4th, 5th, or 6th. This makes accelerating through 2nd & 3rd kind of a jerky affair because the clutch engages slightly, then I fully release the lever, then it engages again.
I've asked my dealer about this at the 500 mile service and the mechanice told me he did NOT notice anything different with my Hayabusa. He did offer to bleed the clutch reservoir and replace the fluid. I declined until the next service. I wanted to see if the problem would go away after the first oil change. It hasn't. This is a big annoyance to me because my ZX11's clutch(also hydraulically activated) is a model of smoothness through all the gears.
Do anyone of you guys have this same clutch performance? Does this have something to do with the slipper clutch? What is a slipper clutch? Will switching to synthetic smooth out the clutch?
