Last night I was riding out to the drag strip with five others for the last track night of the year. Then all of a sudden a HD rider with an iron worker union jacket jumps into our formation, not at the end but in front of me (I was tailgunner). Nobody knew him or invited him into the formation. At first I thought about waving him off as if to say "get the fuuk outta here". Becaue I would never jump into a group of bikes formation, I may join up at the end but never ride within another group if not invited. But I hang back and think well he is keeping up with the sporties and he is holding his line, so I do nothing and say nothing.
Fast forward the story -- turns out the HD rider and I are in the line next to each other to register to run the drag strip, and we start talking for close to an hour. He turns out to be super cool, an says that he rides Busas and has a few. Once again I shut up and listen instead of jumping to conclusions or laugh at the guy on this new stock HD. He tells me he holds the West coast record for fastest Busa and shows me a pic of a certificate with his name and a time of 7.77 sec. He shows me pictures of these incredible turbo busas all stretched out and they look like works of art. He said one of them made 745hp and it looked like it.
Tells me he has maps from quasar has worked with other big names in the performance world and he is the owner of Marks speed shop. Here is the kicker, Mark M (forgot his last name but know it starts with an M) turns out to live seven houses away from me around the corner!!!!!! This really is a small world and I got a neighbor I never knew I had that I can talk Busas with now. We both said we will walk over to the other house to say hi from time to time.
So the moral of this story is to always treat people with respect, don't jump to conclusions, remember there is always someone out there that has done more, knows more and has more than you.
Mark M.....ummmmm who is mark M that holds any record? Especially one for an entire coast? Hmmmmmm.....
You never told us how you did at the strip![]()
O yea, I am getting faster with every trip to this track that is a half mile above sea level.
I only made two runs before taking off to meet up with other friends -
RT - .232, 60' - 1.823, 1/4 of 10.485 @ 133.95
RT - .324, 60' - 1.843, 1/4 of 10.444 @ 134.60
Stock engine gen 1 busas almost never dip into the 9's here even with air shifters, shinko, and stretched. This was the first time for me stretched at +5, and I already know I can bring down the 60' easily. Sooooo much more confident on launches compared to stock wheelbase.![]()
