It's almost home!

Remember the "buyoutofstate.com" thread?

I've never purchased a bike like this before, so I was a bit nervous transferring the funds. Turned out to be $9,499 + $300 shipping. A 2005 blue and silver Busa was picked up by the trucking company late last Friday, and it's own it's way! Should be arriving Wednesday or Thursday.

From what I understand from the dealership, all that's required (after getting it out of the crate) is to mount the windshield, connect the battery cables, and put gas in it. Other fluids are suppose to be at the proper level.

I'm curious if anyone has built a Busa from a crate? And if so, is there anything else involved, or anything I should be watch for besides the obvious; oil/coolant level, required chain slack, etc. According to the dealership, there's not much too it, but I guess I'll find out soon!

I plan to post pictures of the uncrating/assembly event. Stay tuned! Damn... I feel like a kid at Christmas!

I bet you must feel like you are on top of the world right now. Take plenty of pictures for the photo album because you are having a newborn!! Make sure that the brakes are bled too and the bolts are torqued down.

Congrats, I just got the same one. I'm lovin it!!!!
Pipes on thanks to Toyz, and my LED sliders and next is the double bubble, bluegauges, + HID kit is on it's way from Xenonking.com

Why did you buy it online? (genuine curiosity)

I have a dealership price of $10,700 out the door and I get to observe the process of opening the crate...removing the bike, ,setting it up...etc.

Did you check out the local stores? $900.00 is a lot of money...but in this case the peace of mind involved in dealing with a local store was well worth the additional expense.

gsferrari - Yes, I checked with many dealers (16), in Virginia and several surrounding states. I wish one would have presented a decent deal, but they sure didn't. Dealers know the Hayabusa is selling fast. My closest dealer sold every one he had.

After the dusts settles (registration, title, tags) I'll be at $10,065 for my 2005, that even includes shipping. Locally I would have had to pay; MSRP ($11K), plus the standard fees (registration, tags, title), and perhaps setup and distination charges too. Sometimes dealers like to quote you a OTD price, but when you check the fine-print, other interesting charges get tacked on.

The dealer I ordered my Busa through stated there's not that much to putting it together, plus I think I'd like to do that part myself anyway.

And don't fool yourself. Many (most?) service people are not factory trained. I've never felt really comfortable when service tech's messing with my equipment. The number one rule of dealers is to make money, and one easy way to do that is to pay untrained people in the service department to do the routine tasks, such as build bikes, change oil, etc. I used work as a saleman at a dealership and I've seen this. I also know of one factory trained tech that quit a dealership because of the sh###y work being done by untrained techs.) To me there's something seriously unsettling about trusting my bike to an 18 year old fresh out of high school, working at their first job, making $7/hr. I think many do their own maintenance for this very reason. I'm looking forward to learning everything I can about the Busa so I can do as much work on it myself as possible, and I'm looking forward to building it myself.

I have a full warranty on it, and the dealer said they will take care of any damage that occurs due to shipment.

Congrats

...I imported my bike, so t obviously came fully packed in a crate. Had to fix the mirrors, the wind shield... the fluids were all at the right levels... but I still suggest you look for the following -

a) Brake / Clutch Fluids
b) Coolant
c) Once all the fluids are topped, and the battery connected... start your bike, and leave it on idle for some time to check for any coolant leaks.
d) Tire pressure
e) Chain Tension & luberication
f) All the concerned bulbs
g) also check if the play in the clutch / break lever is right, before you go out on your maiden ride!
