Just bought a 2007 busa with 6600 miles. Guy never road it and put fuel stabilizer in it and its all over the inside of tank… how can i get this out/if i dont wont it clog injectors? Please see pic

Also when i took tank off theres a connector disconnected but no trouble / check engine lights on. What is this connector for and should it be plugged in? Does have a power commander 3

Can’t say about the PC but the stuff in the tank must have been a tank sealant or protective liner. Any normal fuel treatment/preservative could be run thru. However, if it’s a sealant, drain and use soap and hot water and/or acetone. Sealants can be for tanks with holes in them or for extended storage to ward off rust. Hopefully the fuel lines and injectors weren’t stored ‘wet’. Old fuel can be a disaster.

Welcome

I take it the rest of the bike is pristine...

That looks like it will clean up just like @WuzzaCBXRider says....

Clean it first and since the bike has sat a long time without running a good thorough check of everything needs to be done....I'd go so far as clean out the injectors to save misery down the road.

Not sure what that plug is but someone on here will that's a fact.

Yeah bike looks brand new except for the tank. Gas is old as hell never started. Sat over 7 years. The fuel I got out so far doesn’t have any particles as I emptied what I could with siphon into coffee filter. Prob best to take to professional to get cleared out / inspected Incase liner was for repair of leak. On the outside of tank it looks perfect. Fingers crossed it was preventative liner

I would get that tank purged and thoroughly cleaned before I did anything else. I don't know what that mess is but it isn't fuel stabilizer and hopefully the engine wasn't started with that gunk in the tank. If the bike sat for 7 years in addition to cleaning the tank I'd be looking at replacing all fluids, tires and I'd be checking brake lines among other things.

I had a V-Max tank that was a mess

garden hose with soap and water shaken a drain
repeat

Filled with vinegar for two days, drain
Fill with "Evapo-rust" for I forget ,long end of instructions, drain
Took to car wash and used high pressure nozzle inside the tank
gallon of WD-40 poured in, and sloshed around for a while

I then drained it and let it sit all winter waiting for me to get the rest of the bike back together
still look new and clean inside

Found a shop which will take a camera to tank and try to identify if it’s a liner or something else. Shop stated could be a liner but he doesn’t know of any liners which are red that he heard of. Shop gave me a few steps I have to complete before I can bring tank to him which I’m gonna get complete and get to him. Shop stated most liners are white grey or black so yeah. He also said liners shouldn’t deteriorate with gas so either liner was done wrong/poorly or something was in tank which shouldn’t have been ate it.

I’m unsure as I never had a liner in a gas tank. Also took care of factory tank to avoid these issues.

Thank you all for welcoming / assisting me in this matter. I’m very familiar with r1 and cbr1000 but this is my first Busa / working on it.

Hopefully can get to bottom of what it is and get it cleaned out. Once I find out what’s in tank will then go thru entire fuel system and inspect for any damage. Hoping it’s not extensive but very well maybe

DWIW my $.02
red stuff is a marvel oil product
I don’t think so bc it’s hard as hell. I used fingernail to try and remove where I could and it’s not coming off. I’d feel like the oil even old sitting in empty tank would break down when you shake gas in tank as this does not. So my fuel stabilizer is also out the window

Definitely replacing all fluids radiator flush brake fluid tires and clean/reoil k&n air filter but wanted to tackle the biggest unknown before I get too far into it which is the tank.

You guys are great tho. Other forums I’d post and never got replies. Always wanted a Busa and finally found a nice one excluding tank. 6600 miles on bike 07 and grab it for 4500 with clean title and miles were reported with inspection so no funny business with rolling back miles with new cluster. Also gotta get rid of these ridiculous levers which are the most uncomfortable levers on earth. Gotta get me a nice pair of crg levers

That bike so clean that if worse comes to worst, it would be worth getting a good, used gas tank for it....hopefully it can be cleaned out and used.......you can take the bottom plate off and shine a good light in there to see how bad it is......

Yes, those levers have to go and I'd be thinking about getting a pair of bar end weights back on it if you find the bar vibration too bad...

Any suggestions for end weights?
