First it was hot!
But not that hot... about 95 degree air temp.
I had a blast!! Trackdays rock!! I would have brought the Busa too, but I couldn't afford 2 sets of new tires. So I only took the 750.
I had a couple close calls;
I started to lose the front end/small tank slapper in turn 8. Its a fast, 100+mph corner that has a lot of bumps. I was decently accelerating thru the corner and I think the combination of not much weight on the front and the bumps started a small tankslapper. I just decreased the amount of lean angle and the front tire was immediately planted again. Had to pit after that
Another time, I was right behind a slower rider, preparing to pass him, and a much faster rider passed us both on the inside at the entry to turn 7. I thought maybe the guy ahead of me might panic and slow so I covered the front brake.... ready just in case. Sure enough the guy slows down abruptly in the apex of the turn and I use just enough front brake to separate my front with his rear tire, but not too much to wash the front out in the apex. The slow rider should have just stayed in the gas, the much faster rider was gone in a heart beat and on a different line. There was no reason to slow
But the rest of both days was awesome.
On Sunday, a friend timed my laps. My fastest lap time was in the 2:07s, but I mainly ran 2:08s and :09s. The guy who timed me mentioned the cut-off for Race(A) Group was 2:10 and suggested I bump up. There were 4-5 slow riders in sport(B) group who should have probably been in street{C} group. They were very slow mid-corner and I would come up on them very fast, so I let the organizers, Trackdaz.com, decide. They bumped me to Race Group.
I actually passed 4-5 guys in Race Group each session. About 7 more were passing me. And then there were about 5 guys who were just CRAZY fast. They'd just blow right by, off the racing line, and after the next corner... there gone!!
I did feel safer in Race Group. But the important thing to remember is to stay right on the racing line, because the super fast guys go by very quick.
I ran the new BT002RS tires and once I found the right PSI, they never slipped on me. And before I figured out what PSI to run, the front slid once/the rear slid many times under power, they were sliding controllably. But they never just let go without warning. I liked them a lot. Of course race tires would be best, but they're much more expensive and don't handle heat cycles very well....
Pahrump is my favorite track, but it only beats out Buttonwillow because it has a 200 degree right hander and a 250 degree left hander. And Buttonwillow is much bumpier than Pahrump.
CaliPhotography was there and I bought a couple shots. Here's the track;
