Just venting

IN THE NATIONAL DEFAULT LANGUAGE.
just cause i like to play devils advocate....

where does it say english is the "default" language? where does it say ANYWHERE english is anything in the USA... let alone any other language? just because u "think" its the default language doesnt mean it "is". so until something is actually done to make english, or any language for that matter, an "official" language of the USA, then u cant really back up the statement "speak our language or get out" cause what IS out language if none has been official chosen?

I guess technically we should be speaking native american but we took over and now its english

oh, what the he11... just curious on what the misleading occurences might have caused this nation as a whole to think english is a default language, when there were spanish and french explorers & colonists in the beginning. indians were here first, why didn't we learn their language? lessee... what was the outcomes of the territorial wars between the french, the spanish, the english, and the indians? back when it was more of a winner take all mentality- instead of modern bomb & rebuild. germans, italians, and asians had small stakes in the matter compared to the main 4. what group as a whole came out on top? what language was the constitution, bill of rights, declaration of independance, etc written in? currency written in? like I said... just curious, nothing meant other than food for thought

A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that

included Admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian

and French Navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself

standing with a large group of Officers that included personnel

from most of those countries. Everyone was chatting away in

English as they sipped their drinks but a French admiral

suddenly complained that, 'wherea s Europeans learn many

languages, Americans learn only English.' He then asked, 'Why

is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences

rather than speaking French?'

Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied 'Maybe its

because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Americans arranged it

so you wouldn't have to speak German.'

You could hav e heard a pin drop!

I still say language is overated. The summer after high school, a Polish family we were friends with had a cousin come to California for a visit, and she and I got along just great without either one of us speaking a word of the other's language

.

I really noticed the difference moving from the midwest to Southern Florida. I feel like I am from another country. You almost feel you have to learn spanish to just get by here. ENGLISH is definetly the SECOND language here!!!

I dated a hispanic girl one time when I was 21 and she spoke about 5 words in english.

It also bothers me when I see people flying flags of other countries.  If they love their country so much, why did they leave?
This bothers me tremendously as well!! I want to walk up and ask them that same question.."So why did you leave?"

Although while stationed in Virginia, I proudly displayed my Texas flag on the front of the house. There were many transplant Texans who did this, but most military members displayed the flag of their home state. Although, I always had a United States Flag flying as well.

I don't think anyone has an issue with you flying your state flag in another state. I do have issues with someone flying your foreign country flag in the USA, especially if you try to fly it at the same height, or higher than the USA flag! That's when I say you should be deported back to your home country!

My two cents. . . it has always been accepted in this country, and never questioned that English was our official language. As said earlier, all of our official documents are written in English, our national anthem is sung in English, our courts are conducted in English, and our legislative sessions are held in English. Our President speaks in English. . . just because the democratic Congress won't pass a constitutional amendment to officially make English our official language doesn't mean it isn't our official language. They are just bowing to the hispanic voters. The Republicans have tried multiple times to get this through the House and Senate. It is the Democrats that stall it every time! Just because our founding fathers overlooked this and left it out of the documents, not thinking this would be such a big problem, doesn't mean that we shouldn't remedy it. Until recently, when immigration has gotten out of control, and Americans have lost their backbone, has this even been an issue. We need to fight for our way of life, or we will no longer recognize the America we are becoming!

this is kind of funny. I was in 5th grade and the teacher told me to ask my grandpa what our ancestors where. Mind you he waas a some what of a drunk.. SO his answer was well we are just ****ing white trash. SO as i went back to school and told my teacher that she didnt think it was funny.
Well know that i am older you know i look back on that and he was right. Cause now with all the immigrants coming in they get treated differently then they did before. I mean they get education free taxes...and everything handed to them in some ways.

SO i know where your coming from i get little frustrated of the speaking thing. my freind owns a nextell sprint store and you shuld see how many come in there like that. The funny thing is they will walk in speaking english.. NOW how does that work... he has said come back when i can understand you and they look at him a speak broken english...

ok just my 2 cents
