K8 Front Tire Change

In the case of that above photo, it was the very first I have removed the front tire, and I was just following the manual. Never have removed it in the eight times I've changed tires since this past April. Obviously, it's unnecessary to remove the fender completely (although it does need to be loosened so the tire can slip out from underneath, when using the Pittbull stand).

Cool, Thanks

I like seeing guys figure out way to get the job done with simple tools most eveyone has in their garage. Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!

Couple of pointers for the next time: You don't need to remove the axle pinch bolts, just loosen them.

You don't have to remove the brake line clamp on the right side of the front fender if you are not removing the fender.

Also, I personally have a couple of very small bungie cords I use to place one hook onto the brake caliper and the hook on the other end to the brake or clutch lever and it holds the calipers well up and out of the way.

I use the same method as Warchild with the pit bull stands. Except, after I put the bike up on stands and get the wheel loose, I use a floor jack like you and raise the front of the bike up a couple more inches so the tire rolls out without removing the fender.

One other thing I may point out. If you are using a floor jack to jack up your bike by means or the header pipes, I'd use a flat board across the pipes. That's a lot of weight on that wedge and I'd be afraid of spreading the pipes?

Good Job though dude! You GotRdone and that's what counts!

If you place a couple of 2x4's on the floor under the wheels of the stand it'll raise the bike high enough so you don't have to loosen the fender. At least it does with my T-rex stands.

That's what I do with my front stand as well

Also, on my 06 when I changed front tires the axle retaining bolts were only loosened on one side. I used an axle removal wrench to unscrew the axle from the stationary side. The manual on the K8 was not as clear as it was on this point on the 06. I think it is the same though.???

WOW!!!.........now thats some fancy rednek racing there!! stands are $100 a set. and you will free up 3 hrs of rigging too.

That tire looks like it's got some funky wear going on. Was it handling ok? You balance the new tire?

No Offense but I would Rather Ride to My Local Dealership. Get some Breakfast or Lunch. Go Back to the Dealership. Give them $84.00 then Ride Home on some New Rubber Front and Rear.................

Yep, handling seemed fine, when I get some wear on the new tires, Ill do a post on how the "Dynabeads" balancing worked. Love them so far:thumbsup:

YEP--i used the 2x6 method myself (I used 2x6--just to make sure it was wide enough). I only had to loosen the fender bolts so it would move around. No need to remove!
