Just wanted to share for I know there are lots of anminal lovers out there in Busaville! TJ was born in Tennessee same as myself and wife. However, we did not meet until I was stationed in Alaska when TJ and his mate were offered to us and the family was delighted. He came with a page full of typed commands and was the smartest dog I have owned and very much loved by all who met him. He was 12 years old last Sept and seemed to be very healthy. Just one week ago he developed an issue with his heart and we were working hard to get with a specialist the very next morning after diagnosis. That was yesterday morning, as always he seen the wife and I off to work. We were to go in and make calls to contact somone whom may could help. By 0800 my 12 year old son called the wife crying as he had passed away. His heart had exploed from the rapid and eratic heart beat. We all came home and was a very bad day for everyone. I drove him to to the vet at our local Army Post and will have him cremated and bring back home soon. I didn't realize that you could cremate dogs but we all wanted him back home with family. It's just not the same already without him and I'll start the search for another as soon as possible. Man's best friend is truely our dogs and TJ is one that I will always have in may heart! TJ's best trick... although I'm an Air Force member, you could tell him to Army Crawl and he would hit the dirt and crawl like a soldier

Wow, sorry for the loss - it's very hard I know. I had a Sheltie when I was growing up and they truly are the most intelligent dogs out there - there may be smarter dogs, but not as intelligent. A good book to read is "Rescuing Sprite" written my Mark Levin - it'll help you thru this rough time (it's a good read for any dog lover). It's not very long and can basically be read in one sitting. Hang in there - TJ's spirit will always be with you.

Mike, I'm so sorry to hear that. Please let the whole family know we share in your loss. My sister has Shelties and they are wonderful dogs. I lost my best friend Duke the dobie a few years ago due to a heart condition and it still brings a tear to my eye when I think about him. Get yourself another dog when the time is right. There is a dog somewhere that needs a loving family like yours.

Perfect.... thanks for all the comments and that is what we needed! The wife knows of the org but had never really looked prior to today. What a smile she had and a tear to read comments from our finest members! I have now brought our boy home in his urn

As difficult as it is, you should try to take comfort from the fact that he knew how you cared for him, and that he's now resting in peace.

+1 on the good book! Call Mark up on his show or go post your story on his website. He may even give you a free copy.
