Who is the Guru here, my old computer guy has disappeared. I'm looking to buy a decent 17.3" screen laptop. What do you recommend and is there anyone here looking to sell a nice one or trade for some parts. No Junk please if you want to sell or trade. I'm going to buy one before end of today..

I've had several laptops in my day, and so far the ASUS that I'm using now seems to be the most bulletproof one I've owned for the money. It might pay to check them out. Bang for the buck deal...

Asus seems to be making a good quality laptop these days. I would suggest them.

But ultimately I suggest a MacBook best in class IMHO :).

Depends on what you need the laptop to do? What programs are you running? What's the budget?

Photo and video editing will require a bigger (more expensive) laptop than say a laptop just used for email and internet surfing. :beerchug:

email, posting pics on net, using on dyno with winpep software, and storing and building of maps.. What ASUS model are you guys using?

U may do well with a NetBook. You can pick up a good one for under $500 easy. We bought one for my nephew 2 years back an Asus I think and he has been tracking to and from school for that time and it still works like a champ.

I'm running an ASUS U56E and my wife is running a X54C both have been bulletproof. My wife is VERY tough on laptops and this one is holding its ground..

Just to give you an idea, she killed a Dell D620 which is built like a tank... :banghead:

Thanks Guys, I've had lots of Dell's and they worked great. I'm in between toshiba and the asus, time to go deal hunting..

Asus here. Daughters Toshiba lost its screen(went darrk). Salesman says they have that problem. Asus all the way.

im on my second toshiba only reason its the second one is cause the first was stolen, ive had about a dozen laptops and the toshibas have been by far the best!

my daughters lap top screen just went haywire....just because the grand baby was using it as a trampoline. uhhhgghhh... there goes 300 bucks

cough up a little extra cash and buy a MacBook Pro. it will be the last computer u'll ever need to buy and will NEVER give you a problem. I was buying a new lap top every year or so with Windows.

i've had my Mac for two years now and not one virus, spyware or malware issue. and it starts up and puts me on line in about 8 seconds every time I open it. its an investment but a wise one.

I could buy 5 ASUS laptops for a MacBook Pro, and by the time they ALL die, the MacBook would be ancient history as far as performance terms.. I have an iPhone, but can't see why they think their laptops are made of gold. They still use Toshiba parts inside.. :banghead:

Enjoy my SAGER gaming rig.

I have a quad core Sager 17" 9280 that I bought about a year ago. I is amazing but then it's a gaming rig also. I have owned many laptops but even after a year, this will run anything I put on it at max resolution.

I've had my Macpro for 5 years and not one crash or failure. Other than the power surge from my house And it's performance is still good. I can still play many of the newer games but not all. But man I wouldn't cry if they lowered the price a bit.
