My tire has maybe a 1/4" of clean tread left and that is because of having a new bike, road conditions, and years of real club road racing. When you have raced on a real track under controlled conditions you tend to take less chances on the street with lean angles knowing full well that if you were on the race track you would put that bird over until something dragged.
Everybody just remember to ride within their own abilities and road conditions. Trying to impress others with how well you can lean a bike over etc, etc. should be saved for the racetrack. Check with your local performance shop and they can direct you to the nearest club for roadracing.
Note: When I do performance riding on the street or mountain roads. I like to ride the day after a hard rain, this usually washes any slick spots away. Also, it is best to ride a new road or very familiar road with a slower sighting lap to verify current conditions. The other day after a good rain on my favorite loop of tarmac, several of the corners were strewn with gravel, but I was looking for this stuff on my initial lap.
