led headlight mod

Hows the light output look when you have them switched? I feel like the high beam doesnt get as wide as the low beam.

They are just like bright ass HIDs. Tons of scatter if you use the standard low beam. I swapped the lowbeam & high beam harnesses to use the high beam projector as my standard light.
I will try this.
Btw the led lamp still works fine...

Any pics of the installed bulbs?

Hi.
Well it is a little difficult now because half the led headlight was damaged (probably the integrated led chip connections failed due to heat and/or vibration because the led bulb operates fine for 2 or 3 seconds, then the light intensity fluctuates and finally only one of the two led chips remain lit) so i removed it and went back to stock lamp.
I can say that the stock bulb cannot be compared to the led brightness.
I will try to find some other led type more rugged...

I run a pair of 60W LEDs in my Gen 1. (H7 & 9005) (Ebay title: 2015 New 60W 7600LM Set Cree LED Headlight 30W Bulbs H11 H8 H7 H4 9003 9005 9006 )

They are ridiculously bright and have integrated fans for cooling. The seller rates them @ 7600 Lumen (combined) and I dont doubt it. You'll blind and/or piss off people with them in the standard reflector housing.

I think I am gonna do this too juissed. You bike is my bike's idol!

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

I did what juissed did. OMG these lights are bright!!! Had to do a simple fab to hold the low beam in place but otherwise it was plug and play :)

I also replaced my 30w main led head lamp with a 20w led lamp (actually 12 real watts) because i need to save some amps for running my turbo fuel and water pumps and reduce light scattering.
I can say that 12w(1A@12V) equal or surpass a 55w halogen lamp.
Soon i will replace the high beam one with a led one also.

I installed a LED low beam from Cycle gear over the winter. It throws the same beam pattern as a standard bulb but is very bright. I may need to adjust it down a bit but so far no one has flashed their high beams at me all season.

I have my high and low beam's wired independently. When the high/low beam switch is off, my 3000K yellow halogen high beam is only on. When it gets dark, I flip the high/low beam switch on and my high beam goes off and my 4300K HID comes on. I've been wanting to upgrade the high beam to LED, just never took the time.

Isn't there a rubber cover that goes over the high beam bulb area? Do you cut a hole in that? Does it still seam and won't fog up the headlight? Thanks for any input!

I can't edit my post, but here's a video I ran across. With only high beam during the day, I feel I'm easier seen by traffic vs low beam. Plus kind of cool looking and different.

I didn't modify the high beam rubber seal. The high beam was totally plug and play. I don't know if there will be any issues with fogging. I am a fair weather rider only so not too concerned about waterproofing as demonstrated by completely discarding low beam seal.

This simple upgrade has led me down a path to wanting more, as usual. I am now planning on doing a full low beam H1 or S2000 projector retrofit and will probably run an HID bulb. I will still run the LED for high beam. I want to black out the chrome of the stock housing so I need to run a projector low beam, plus the scatter right now is ridiculous.

For now, I have switched the wiring harnesses and am running the projector high beam as my low beam and vice versa just like you. It is an adequate solution but means I really don't have a high beam now. Yet another reason to retrofit.

That's good to know, thanks for the info. I'll be ordering a 3000K LED for my high beam for a brighter DRL.

How do you see at night with only the high beam? I forgot to plug my HID back in once and had to drive to work one morning with only the high beam on back roads and made me nervous

With the 3500 lumen LED bulb, the high beam functions awesome as a low beam at night. Way better than my old standard halogen low beam.

So with the LED as the high beam - the only parts needed are the bulb which uses the same connector?
