I disagree. There is no actual right that anyone has to become a United States citizen and therefore we have no responsiblity to that cause. "We the people" decide when our borders being opened or closed are doing more harm than good. Therefore it is not a right but a privilege that is granted to others when we, as a nation, see fit.... however, our responsibility is to provide a system that efficiently enables people to obtain legal residence and one that is capable of more than selective enforcement.
Currently we have too many people flooding our borders in the name of opportunity and our own people are losing their opportunity. Eventually there won't be any more reason to want to live in the United States than there is currently to live in Mexico.
Selective Enforcement or limited ability to enforce the law given the swarm of people jumping a somewhat invisible line that is more than 1000 miles long? I'd say it's the latter.
