loose back end

I'm on my 2nd Busa 1st an 05 and now the K8 and one thing seems diffrent (well more than just one)...The back end seems really loose... has anyone else encountered the same? I know the k8 has more hp but I find myself checking the back tire almost everytime I ride (which I know it is correctly inflated)

The back end seems really loose...
You're gonna have to elaborate a little.... what (specifically) do you feel that leads you to believe the back end is "loose"?

Perhaps you are referring more to rear grip/feel/feedback... which suggests you may not like the stock BT-015 tires. If everything is within spec mechanically (axle nut torqued to specs, rear wheel in line with the front wheel, etc, etc), then perhaps try a set of the excellent Dunlop Qualifiers or Michelin Pilot Powers, and see if you still perceive a "looseness" back there.

I havent really cranked on mine too hard since it only has a few hundred miles on it. I can agree thou, mine feels like that but I think its the "nimble" talking to me.

Any one have thoughts on suspension setting for a 250 guy that is 6'2 - the wife is 120 and I wonder if I should be setting the suspension up for something different.

don't worry, my brother had the same thing and she's fine now

Thanks Warchild for your help...I think the tires are fine I switched the stock ones for Pirelli Diablos when I bought the bike so never used the stock wheels. When I'm riding down the rode the back end wants to wobble almost like you shifted your weight back and forth on the bike and on occasion it almost wants to come out from under me but quickly snaps back

Pirelli Diablos are 2003 tire technology...if you ride aggressively you're not putting the best tires available under you and the bike. IMO spring the extra cash and get the better tires available (Q's, PPs, M3, Corsa III, etc.)

Did you get them via Cycle Gear sale?

No I bought them about 6 months before I bought the k8 so I had them put on the new bike. I wanted something that was harder on the inside but still gave me the sticky tracktion for the curves. I live in the mountains and I enjoyed them on my 05. I will be changing them out before the end of summer

They're good tires just not the best available. Also manufactureres DO make bad tires (out of round) that make their way to market. Use to work for Michelin...it happens.

We're they fully scrubbed in and heated up?

You still didn't state what psi you were running and under what riding conditons you felt them slipping on you.

I don't know the PSI off the top of my head but I just recently had it serviced so I assumed it was set when I took it in. The tire is not running low but I will check it later tonight. As for road conditions pretty much any...I thought it might be happening only when I accelerated but it happend last week just while I was riding down the road. I'm not an aggressive rider and only hit the twisties about 2 or 3 times a month (to much time in the office)Thanks for your advice and input

And yes they were scrubbed up and I heated them up...maybe one to many times hence the need for new tires in a few months

My first Busa, K8, I don't notice any wiggle back there. In fact I think the Busa is the tightest bike I have had for going through corners. Stock tires no shimmy at all.

So its happening when you're straight up and down? Or when you're accerlating hard out of a corner still leaned over?

Could be the road surface. Grooves, cracks, and the repair tar strips will make the bike move around a little.

Better check the PSI. I had a tire installed and it felt squirrely on the way home, got it home and it read 48 PSI! Brought it down to 39 and it was fine.

Maybe it's time to check your alignment, fastener tightness, chain, brake caliper, etc. If all seems well, it will probably be in your best interest to pull the wheel, and thoroughly inspect the wheel and tire. Something is definitely not right.

I am on my second rear tire. I am sticking with the stockers, because they work. My '08 feels like it's on rails, and extremely sure-footed. If yours feels squirrelly, don't ride it until you get it sorted out. Safety first!

I get a similar feeling when leaning hard and changing throttle or riding over a few bumps. I have stopped several times to check the axle to see if it was coming loose as thats how it feels.

good post

I have been in a straight line and felt it feel weird in back. Front is fine. I figure the shop I bought it from should have set it up right and I only have 300 miles on it. Going to by a really good tire gauge today.

My friend has an 07 zx10 that felt the same way and we loosened up on the rear suspension and the problem was gone (I know it sounds wierd) maybe the rear shock is set too hard try bringing it out a few clicks on the adjusters.

Last thing a stock Busa needs is softer suspension from OE settings.

ZX-10 is very stiff w/ stock settings.
