What you want to do will make the bike look better, but you will bottom out on rough roads and riding two up. I lowered my '06 2 in. in the rear and whatever reaper risers get you up front, I think it was 3/4 in. I had to be real careful when parking the bike. It nearly stood straight up and down.
As far as handling you will drag hard parts much quicker, but if you don't ride like that it's not an issue.
The less you lower it the better it will handle.
Top clamps are fairly expensive , I just used risers.
